Ring of red would be a favorite of mine if its combat rounds were only like thirty seconds. Instead it's like every other tactics game that makes you do a minigame/fight for every attack, it's just too slow.
Fighting more than ten enemies and it takes over a minute for every round and it usually takes multiple to down anyone is just glacial.

Armored core has always put effort into the mechs feeling like technological developments in their world, even if there's other things that take it even further.

most mech games have poor sense of scale since there aren't any humans to contrast them (see: AC)
they also seem to lack focus on animation and weight. to use AC as an example again, you can turn and jump without any real momentum or inertia. it's like the mech is just an action figure flying about in someone's hand rather than a giant hunk of metal
I get that mecha is a bit of a silly concept in general since why the fuck would you ever need to actually build one, but it feels off when they're not appropriately weighty

in my dream mecha game everything you do would take at least 3-5 seconds or more. you'd have to plan your moves for events in the near future, ie if I fire a rocket now will it land 5 seconds from now and hit the target? I want everything to feel extremely deliberate and considered

People always go off about animation and weight but animation and weight also need to be appropriately snappy or it's just gonna feel like a shitty game. Armored core is pretty specifically trying to replicate a macross-style experience where your advanced, well designed mech isn't supposed to feel sluggish and unresponsive. It's just aiming for a different different experience than what you want.
They're jetlike, not tanklike, so expecting an ace combat flavored experience is more on target than wanted them to sluggishly stomp around.

Chromehound design make no sense, it's just lazy game design. You could replace it all by tanks.
Armored Core design may use bullshit-energy, but that's just what the equivalent of infantry look like in their setting.

The army have a fuckton of logistical needs, so what if your mecha have arms and grappler? If you can make legs the arms are basically free and let you shoot from behind terrain. Being able to swap/rearm weapons in a minute would also be extremely useful, you just need to use hardpoint instead of "holding it".

The definition is tricky.
Many "exosuit" seen in fiction are now "worn" by the pilot and could very well be piloted remotely given a proper interface and maybe adding a camera since so many hero go helmetless
Most of "Iron man" suit are just miniature mecha that just happen to have a cockpit following the body of their pilots.

-Mobile Suit Gundam: Federation vs ZION (You will need a ps2 emulator)
-Mechwarrior 5 (I suggest some particle effects and audio mods, they really enhance the experience)

Almost every design that got featured in their first releases was from anime. Mostly macross and dougram. They did buy rights to them but it later turned out to be complicated and become a legal issue. They still use these designs in the game today, just chunkier for their current style.

It's funny how Battletech is better at exploring the human condition than any anime. Battletech has neurohelmets which are used to control mechs. If a pilot uses one for a long time, the helmet becomes attuned to them, like an old mattress that gains leg lanes. This makes it hard for other people to use the helmet.

Fiction is always reflection of author's experience, views and ideas. Western mech usually made by people who are more or less fammiliar with idustrial machinery, or at least know how to drive a car. Japanesse mecha made by neet mangakas who cannot afford a prius, due to the Japan corporative culture.

i fucking hated Clans' mission design and these are a lot better by comparison

my only complaint that it gets a little too easy in the second half
first mission has you facing two medium-heavy stars at once, then in the second half there's a mission where you're just curb stomping waves of dashers with the odd medium-heavy mech thrown in

clantech implementation is pretty simple but i like it, clan mechs have fixed hardpoints and omnislots. not as intricate as in Clans but it's easy to outfit them in a way you'll like
academies and hero pilots aren't very interesting since we already have mods for promoting pilots, but it's okay i guess
the mods i use are already updated to be compatible with the DLC, on release stuff like the mouse over map or the purchasing salvage mod broke the game

Human balance is shit for anything but a human body, and even then we get startled, make unvoluntary movements and cannot calculate our every moves as needed, we train years just to have muscle memories. Our bodies were not built for a purpose.

Past a certain mass exo-armor aren't "worn" and don't react like a human body, it doesn't have the same inertia, it doesn't have the same strength, doesn't even react as the same speed, any pointless movement would make the pilot inside feel nauseous.
Any magic brain-mech link you can imagine to cancel the above would be incredibly invasive and some cyborg-level.

General Electric discovered +50 years ago that a human cannot focus on balancing a big machine more than 15mn before loosing concentration due to fatigue. You'll never see useful mecha before we have a computer stabilizing its every move.
