i worked tech support at an ISP that offered free email addresses to all users. the call center was seeing nearly a third of all calls relate to using our email in some client like thunderbird, outlook, even shit like 'incredimail'. the bosses saw this nasty trend and spent god knows how much on a huge informative campaign to let people know:
>their email will still work
>it can be accessed via our webmail site
>we just won't be wasting time troubleshooting clients belonging to other companies, they have their own support for that
>the exact date a month and a half down the line when this will happen
what instantly followed was months of utter chaos. every fucker dumb enough to use an ISP provided email on some garbage app like Apple Mail was now convinced we were stripping the email service from them unprompted in a month and a half. 75% of calls were now email related. people screamed at us for shit they didn't understand. since their client 'worked' when their internet was down (shoved shit into the outbox to wait for a connection), it meant we were FORCING them into an aways online system. Well, we're your ISP and you've never called about internet going down, your connection shows constant steady use, and oh yeah, THUNDERBIRD WILL STILL FUCKING WORK, YOU JUST CAN'T CALL US ANYMORE WHEN IT MAKES A SOUND YOU "'DIDN'T LIKE"
We were told to compare it to cars and garages. buying a car doesn't make the dealer responsible for your garage. LMAO like a fucking NPC boomer can understand an analogy. Never in my life did i expect to hear someone older than me throw a tantrum about how "THIS ISN'T A CAR". i eventually began getting snarky with the entitled retards, asking them if the 'info' tab of the settings says "'sasktel" or another company, and directing them to call that company.
thought of this situation after reading your post. i'll let you figure out why.
