Metroidvanias are just linear games with loads of backtracking and forks in the road masked as "exploration". Linear games with optional challenge side-rooms are objectively better like Shovel Knight

Hunter's March is a fine area who's only real sticking point is lacking a real Bench for no reason at all. It makes the runback to the hidden boss here more annoying than it should be, but otherwise the bitching about this area feels like it stems from it being the first place there the major differences between the Knight's moveset and Hornet's begin to matter.

Holy FUCK lost sinner is an amazing fight, jesus

So far, all Silksong has done to me is make me realize how superior the Ori games truly are. Not punishingly difficult just for the sake of being "hardcore" far superior art direction, style and story, far more comfy atmosphere and soundtrack while still having ample despair.

I'm probably about 3/4 the way through Silksong and it is just not even as good as the first Hollow Knight. The setting of the original game is just simply better and more memorable, Silksong feels like a pale imitation, in fact most of the areas in it are just reskinned versions of areas in the original game. The core gameplay hasn't evolved much at all either other than the game being more punishing and more enemies doing 2 masks of damage even with just touch damage. I don't ever see myself replaying Silksong like I did many times with the original HK.

It's a 7/10, maybe I'll change my mind if the final act is better or more interesting but I'm not holding out hope.

I havent finished the game yet, im currently at Widow and might backtrack a bit to explore more. Ive been seeing a lot of discourse on twitter while im trying to save up on HK art, people are struggling with a lot of areas and bosses WITH DASH, especially Hunter's March, which I personally did without Dash, and I cant help but wonder if were all playing the same game here, I find it very unbelievable how bad some people are at this game.

Hard to really quantify. I'd say Act 2 is easily the longest just given that the citadel itself is basically the size of the main path up to it and getting the movement upgrades there open up all the other side areas which are collectively the largest chunk of the game. Act 3 is structured weird in that it continues to open or change new content but it's easily the smallest if we just count stuff that is literally only available via unlocking it and there are paths towards stuff in Act 3 that can be done earlier in 2.

Obviously I did not actually 100% it given I'm missing shit I'm sure this goes up to like 105%.

I actually managed to muster an uncharacteristic level of restraint and forethought in regards to Bone Bottom. I didn't destroy the bridge or statue because I paid for them. I did fight there and can't remember if I did a quest to rebuild the bench or if it was already unscathed, but I had no good reason to attack the bench either.

Default control scheme sucks ass. I hate when they try to emulate a controller on a keyboard. Though nothing is going to be as bad as Attack on Titan PC port.

Use the double damage/double damage taken charm, get the extra money drop charm from the thief bug, and then just run back and forth along that upper hallway with those big guardian bugs. Each one drops 50~ beads and you can combo them and run along the track in like 60 seconds for a total of 250 beads every other minute.

I think Cogworks has my favorite song in the OST. I think tonally the vast majority of the area tracks in Silksong are a lot more "sweeping and epic" and it feels like I'm trying to surmount the world and come out on top, but in Hollow Knight the tracks were far more ambient and fit a lot better for getting lost in its environments.

Just restored Bellhart, died a lot due to exploration

I like the combat so far, it feels like a battle dance.

The plataforming is good/hard from the start and most maps are not straightforward, but I can understand why some people don't like that.

For the bad stuff I'm not a fan of the quest/wish system... it's barebones and the rewards are lackluster sometimes. Same with Crests/Styles.

The Charms might as well not be there, they are a nothing burger; I understand that it might be a balancing decision but yeah...

Soul/Mask upgrades are hard to come by unlike the first game and the locations are not as memorable.

I will rate it correctly when I finish the game but so far it's a 7/10 compared to HK 10/10

6/10. The world, characters and story are a downgrade over HK's. The world doesnt feel as alive anymore. I dont think the game is crazy hard but backtracking and every enemy being a health sponge makes traversing the enviroment and fighting anything very tedious. The quests are pretty uninspired too

I beat the game with only the one upgrade, +1 nail. I've had the big "5 part" quest for the special oil for a while and I thought THAT was the oil the Pinmaster wanted, but then I found another oil in that area beneath the First Shrine and now I'm +2 and everything dies so much faster. I genuinely believed there were only two upgrade levels. I can only imagine how crazy strong you get at +3. I gotta work on getting that today.

you may also need to visit every area, so if you've never been to sands of karak, wisp thicket, or putrified ducts try going there and see if that works.

It's impressive how good I got at platforming in the game once I stopped giving a fuck about going too fast.

I really wanted to like it but they completely fucked this game up. I beat the original HK, Dark Souls, DS2, DS3, BB, and ER. Out of all of those the most it has in common with is DS2 and for all the wrong reasons.

I'll wait for updates but if theyre gonna keep huffing their own farts and refuse to get their heads out of their asses then im perfectly ok with never beating it. Shit games dont deserve my time and this is definitely a shit game.

Favourite area is probably Belhart. I know it's a town but freeing it and the fight to do so was really fun.
Favourite boss probably the First Sinner. Was really fair, fast paced but not actually hard. Just cool.

i didn't have trouble with most of them, they're just boring and lazy fights. sister splinter has like one easily avoidable attack besides spawning vines and adds, savage beastfly has two extremely easily avoidable attacks besides spawning adds, etc. last judge has a lot of attacks that are just "stand very far away from the boss or you take damage" and that's unbelievably boring.
fourth chorus is easily the worst boss in the entire game though, that's not even up for debate.
