Your eyes literally "use" colors. If you stare at the same thing for some time that color gets "used up" and has to regenerate.
That's also why if you stare into the sun with your eyes closed everything looks blue afterwards, since all your "red" sensors are occupied.
Colorblindness works by a similar mechanism, just that it's permanent.

Again, thats likely because your monitor is either bigger than mine or you sit closer to it. I know my right eye has a blind spot, but its much further out than the edge of the red line.
