Yeah, Ultimate Alliance is a pretty good answer. I'm glad I came up with such a relevant answer to OP's question. My answer to the topic's question was really insightful and brought this thread closer to its stated purpose -- which is finding games that people thought were good when they were younger, but don't hold up to their matured preferences or time in general. An interesting premise, really. That's why I post here; I like to discuss video games. I'm grateful for your witicism, too. Short, snarky comments are part of what makes 4chan a charming place for discussion.

For a time it made me believe that all games of that era were just shit, but I replayed super mario bros 3, the punch out games, yoshi's island, ninja gaiden, resident evil, side pocket and F-zero and there were as good, if not better than how I remembered them.

I am right, though. Topic derailers are worse than tourists. Tourists are annoying, but they often want to integrate. They often come here to discuss video games and leave when they don't want to discuss video games.
Derailers don't give a fuck about integrating and just want to derail discussions. They don't leave because they will never run out of topics to derail threads to.

Notice the fact I answered the question and you didn't. I answered multiple times, too.

I wanted to say more than "/pol/" to drive my point home -- my point being that the derailers are worse than the tourists. In a roundabout way, it is on-topic, as OP mentions proving that you aren't a tourist.

To answer the question again, I think that story games are the opposite of this. I hated any game that had a serious plot when I was younger. I think literacy and higher-order thinking play a huge part in the understanding of those games, so it makes sense.

For some real derailing thread action, I'm going to make some carbonara. I don't have any bacon, though, so it'll just be noodles, garlic, and pepper.

I had a friend that had a PS1 game that was chipped. As in an actual chunk of the disk was missing. If I recall correctly it was twisted metal. And the game seemed to work fine.

Also I got scratched up disks that were so scratched up the bottom of the disk didn't even reflect anymore and the only thing that happened was the loading times became 5 minutes long. It was Spiro.

Probably the biggest shock was Cel Damage, not because I expected it to be amazing but the difference in my memories of the game and how it actually was were so vast. To be fair apparently the HD remaster was a botch job

I was worried Total Annihilation would be another one, but then I remembered you could speed the game up with the + and - keys. For some reason the GoG version started at a slower than default speed, once that was sorted it was pretty good. Shame the expansion pack missions are so irritating

The real worst part in DK64 is getting decent scores in both Jetpack and oldschool DK. And they were mandatory to finish the main quest, I think.
The collectible part was a nag, but pausing to change your gear all the time in Zelda was also a nag but people didn't mind it too much. Don't remember anyone saying their experience with Link's Awakening or Oracle of Seasons was ruined because of constant button swapping.

I agree the larger worlds with 5 note nests and a treble cleft is a really weird move. I also agree that the larger worlds feel barren after an initial sweep, the typed eggs feel more like DK colored door switches with occasional context (light lanturns with fire eggs, blow up a metal hatch with grenades) but felt shallow. I agree Mumbo sucks to play as, and Canary Mary sucks ass.
The game is still a 8.5/10. The FPS segments could be better but the idea is awesome, larger worlds with warp pads are awesome, and the tonal shift is a hoot. If Kazooie is a 9/10 Tooie is 8.5. The game was designed for backtracking. You can tell the crew felt inclined to dial back after DK64 but I argue they overcorrected. Some moces become outdated or upgraded upon and therefor lose meaning (you use the beak barge, what, once in Witchyworld?) but it does its job as a sequel of more with a higher scale.

Genuinely never happened. I still like games I liked as a kid, but obviously not every single game I have played and just thought they were ok.

No, it's just not a good game. It was always an inferior Twisted Metal.

Honestly I can't remember a single game where my perception of it changed drastically over the years. Sure, I won't lose my shit over Mario 64 like I would back when it came out, but it's still a fun game.

It's not necessarily bad design but cutting off half of Alleys and Gulleys to needing a powerup later on and bscktracking was a bitch move. There are many moments in this game where falling down and losing verticality means going back and recomitting to a route to get back to where you fell. Not the worst thing since you don' take fall damage but getting to the top of Andy's Neighborhood treehouse, the cash registers and isles of Al's Toy Barn, or climbing the plane in Tarmac Trouble wasn't the most fun.
I want to replay this just to see how well the rest holds up though. I grew up with the 64 version, so hearing the Dreamcast's version of the audio was a treat

Gothic 2, I could draw you a map of this game from memory. Still remember that a cheat code to get almost every item is to summon a guy name "Rockefeller" lmao.

They aren't doing shit. They contribute nothing and don't like ANY games. You could have a perfect game and some /pol/ shitter will complain because a woman does something in the game exactly one time. Fuck you, everyone like you, and everything you stand for.

Using art to influence culture is an inevitable part of human society. The fact that those games suck is a self-correcting problem, so shut the fuck up about it. You aren't a trailblazer because you hate minorities. When you switch your target from "cultural issue that you don't like" to "media conglomerates in general", then you'll have my attention.

Puzzle games don't interest me like they used to. The most fun puzzles are too easy. I think puzzle-solving conventions make puzzles less interesting.

This was one of those games that threw me right into chaos, I couldn't figure out what to and I dropped it. An example of a game that tries to have a fresh cartoony spin on a prexisting concept done right I think is Go Go Hypergrind, which does the base clone of Tony Hawk a little shallowly but fills it out with the ehacky cartoon physics and how those play into your combo meter and the challenges around them all.

The Jetpack score honestly isn't hard, if you grind treasure on the 1st level and never go to lvl2 its easy.
The biggest bitch are things that inhibit your already slow rate of doing things because of backtracking and the tag barrel. For example in Fungi Forest ontop of the 5 characters you also have the day/night cycle that locks things away depending on, so esseltially you'e playing a level with 5x2= 10 states you will need to backtrack in. Don't get me started on the Bonus Barrels.
Keep in kind the low GB count is a ruse because to get to the bosses in later levels you need around 400/500 of a level' colored bananas, so you'll still be playing a fair bit.
Go play Kaze's "Tag Anywhere" mod, it makes so many of the major flaws bearable.

Yes they are all shit games for babies especially the RPGs. It's genuinely insane how anyone can have fun playing this crap. After playing hollow knight or rabi ribi replaying castlevania and metroid games become a chore. Turn based RPGs suck major ass and Zelda should have never been 3D. No 3d game can compete with zelda 2, link to the past or minish cap. Yes even the DS games mog ocarina of slop and majora's flop

It looks "post galaxy nintendo" when they made their brand so safe that it started to look bland.
Even Zelda has this look.

Dread has it too, but somehow it overcame it.
Bananza has it the worst. It looks safe.

DKC was bordering on horror for me as a kid. You were chased around by terrifying looking things and that was fun. Bananza would bore me as a kid today.

Games like that make you fret about carry weight or inventory space. Good old collectathons give you unlimited pockets to just go grab stuff. One reason I think the stress factor of the two are different.

Morrowind was the "funny cat man game where I beat people up and jump for 2 hours so I can leap over buildings" for me for years. I just didn't know how to engage with them properly
