It IS overrated because it's a good game that gets presented by the community as some amazing work of art.

Yes because it's a 9/10, no game is perfect, and the gameplay and structure is also excellent, if you like 2D games you should try beating it someday, it really is an amazing game.

normies and casuals keep trying to take credit for good taste while finding all this stuff through youtube video essays, i played hollow knight when it came out and didn't like it that much, nobody played that shit, but apparently since then troontubers have made a thousand "this masterpiece hidden gem is amazing!" contents about it and therefore this stuff sold even though none of them played HK. this phenomenon started, albeit in a very slow fashion with Dark Souls which is now unrecognizable comes with all this meme cancer baggage.

short answer, bait fatigue
long answer, everything on /v/ is overrated, overposted, and perpetuated purely out of spite for some childish spat someone had years ago, so you never get any variety in subjects or discourse. the only silver lining is when something interesting is actually being discussed or played and discord raiders don't find it.
