Atmosphere, I gotta give it to 1, it has a very cozy B film feel to it, with devs as actors and winter storm NY

Story, 2 is downright kino. it really was the Fall of Max Payne™, im a big sucker for it, my personal favorite game of the series

Gameplay, 3 is really good. its not as easy as 2, and not bullshit as 1. controls feel responsive and shooting feels great.

Max Payne 2 goes too hard in the paint with stacking bullet time super john woo shit and 3 has too many cutscenes but they're all fantastic.

The gangsters sometimes give them a run for their money. That's what happens with you give some roided up half-wit a commando uniform with "special" on the front and let him ride around his hometown in a tank playing soldier. Sooner or later someone's gonna decide he's not so special.

I really don't get how anyone who liked Max Payne in the first place would place 3 above anything. Fucker can't switch weapons anymore, obviously there's also no melee attacks still, everything feels heavy and less dynamic, and the action it's constantly interrupted for a dogshit cutscene every 30 seconds or so, and if we are hinting at personal preferences, the entire thing doesn't even feel like part of the same series, it's a bizarre Kane and Lynch adjacent in style and tone. Best part of the game is every moment you spend in New York, but even that it's ruined from the damage the gameplay ended up taking. Dogshit game, even more terrible sequel, and anyone who like that piece of shit over the others never liked Max Payne in the first place.

Ah, the other two great, i liked the first one the best.

I agree. IDK if I would place it in dogshit territory and while the ghettos and luxury high raises and swamps of Brazil are a really cool setting it really doesn't feel like a Max Payne game at all. Max feels, looks and sounds like a completely different character, in a completely new setting, with no reoccurring characters, events etc from the first two games, with a whole new story pretty much unrelated to anything. When it's in New York it actually feels like Max Payne, but in Brazil? It feels like I'm playing GTA5 or some shit. Max is also a massive retard in Max Payne 3. So many moments I would rage at the computer from Max getting captured or letting people die instead of jumping around and killing everyone like I did 5 seconds ago.

That was necessary to accommodate the limitations of the PS3. It had a limited memory budget. Resistance 1 had bigger levels because it used less demanding textures.

Reminder, that Max Payne 3 Is railed shit with no grenades, no melee, extra limited inventory with no good reason (seriously, why this game has no weapon straps?), heavily scripted cutscene-to-cutscene gameplay, with predetermined weapon which completely eliminates most of the tactic, several "machine gun" sections, juggernaut enemies, cover system and etc. It's literally the 7th gen slop.
