I'm sorry but RDR1 warrants the skipping of every goddamned cutscene. The cold-headed cynic John encounters wacky self-serving douchebags and throws ironic remarks every second sentence. Wow.
Thank god for Arthur.

they really retroactively made john the ultimate bitch in 2
>left his woman and child to be a deadbeat, came crawling back anyways and then couldn't decide whether he actually wanted it or not
>constantly fucking up, you get the impression he's not actually that good at being a gunslinger even in the epilogue
>shot/captured/mauled/cucked by arthur in his absence/held at knife point etc
>spits on arthur's sacrifice after a near-decade of shooting people and ignoring it anyway to go kill micah and lead ross right to his own front door
after playing rdr1 I'd say john was a good man and got his redemption, his son's poor choices be damned (for he had given him the choice to make)
after playing rdr2 I'd say john was a lucky retard who managed to outlast the others for arbitrary reasons and his son was fucked no matter what happened, it was all false hope from the start

>grr ok old man but you'd better not be screwing me over. Right after this you're gonna help me get Williamson or else I'll kill you
>"Ehehe right right of course John"
And then you do another 4 or 5 missions with this same exact kino exchange.

John is not as cynical with objectively good people, or at least people who stick their necks out for him. He respects the MacFarlanes, Marshall Johnson and Landon Ricketts. He even went out on a limb to get Nigel West Dickens freed from the glowies, he obviously deeply dislikes him for being a fraudulent con artist, but he still respects him for keeping true to his word and helping him siege Fort Mercer. Someone who's family is being held hostage while being forced to do government spooks' dirty work obviously is going to have little credulousness to go around in a world full of self-serving cunts

>john gets zero sympathy from the public the second the press mysteriously attains his old crime records and extravagant bounties that the FBI has access to (given that they tracked him down from jim milton to begin with and can tie him to his original sprees with dutch)
>ross has no leverage anymore and assigns his wife to being in the comfort unit of a maximum security penitentiary as spiteful punishment, jack gets an orphanage and his own fleshy glove atrocities
>feds tell the paper not to print that shit and run john down with the US army as he tries to get to the prison in a last-ditch attempt
>he gets shot down in a random field somewhere the same way, abigail dies anyway and jack grows up to be a resentful hoodlum murderer who wants ross dead at all costs anyway
I guess things wouldn't have been that different, just more rape all around

>antagonize or find a surly faggot and stand around him
>wait for the guy to start bitching then draw his gun
>lightly press/"fill" right trigger as if you were in the duel minigame
you'll launch right into dead eye while drawing your gun at the same time, it's functionally the same thing without the music sting and animation setting it up
tangential but crouching while in melee does an uppercut too, there's a bunch of stuff you don't really notice or aren't told

i feel like the entire existance of that game basicly invalidates alot of RDR's story
especially with how John speaks of the past (and how Bill, Javier and Dutch act) it sounded like the gang was a real bunch of outlaws not this goody two shoes shit
RDR2 being a prequel was a mistake, they should have set it in 1889 with landon as the MC and only have the Van Der Linde gang appear as a cameo

not really the same thing, in RDR a random bloke on the street can approach you to duel
>>720354619
>it's functionally the same thing without the music sting and animation setting it up
presentation adds to the experience

speaking of things they removed in RDR2, they also removed cheating in Poker wich lead to some fun duels

Yes the narrative in 2 undermines 1 hard as fuck and also removes the mystery of an outlaw gang with a deluded sense of morality.

>in RDR a random bloke on the street can approach you to duel
this is in RDR2, you might have missed them
there's duels near all the saloons, if you never went to one other than story missions you wouldn't have seen them
there's also that entire questline with the gunslingers and dueling them but I suppose you're wanting specifically random event type ones
Anonymous No.720355327 [Report]
Only thing I hate about this game is how at the beginning of the story it locks you out of 2/3rds of the map. If you want to start grindong side content like outfits you'll have to wait till the very end of the story to wear your favorite outfit at which point, it's already sucked the enjoyment out of it since you only get to wear the badass black duster coat for 4 or 5 missions before the epilogue

Replaying RDR2. Rescued Sean yesterday and stayed up all night at his welcome back party.

100%. Half the dialogue in Mexico sounds like it was written by someone doing a bad Tarantino impression. It’s weird too because John’s whole character is supposed to be this weary, cynical ex-outlaw trying to make good, but they keep throwing him into conversations with cartoon characters who act like they're doing a vaudeville routine. Like yeah, West Dickens is funny the first time, but it turns into a slog real quick. Honestly makes the quieter, grounded moments with Bonnie and Ricketts stand out even more.
