Unless you're making indie slop, this engine is actual fucking garbage

It's actually better than UE5 if you actually take the time to optimize your functions and structs/classes for SIMD
Unity boost library provides you with the means to write optimized code for ARM NEON(Mac/switch1&2), SSE, AVX(ps4/5), AVX512
As long as you make versions of your code hotspots for each you're guaranteed respectively 2x,2x,4x,8x boosts on raw float performance unless you're so fast the CPU is waiting for the ram.(kaze emanuar situation)
That said i agree their monetisation sucks

i like to believe all engines are fine since its better than starting from scratch and people made far better games than you could ever hope to starting from scratch
BUT i just cannot stomach how some games just look like unreal games couple that with the fact that unreal games run like absolute trash while not even good
meanwhile i dont even notice if games were made with unity or godot
Anonymous No.720355727 [Report] >>720359828
Perhaps the same could be said of all public engines.

At least it runs on toasters, though.

What about 2D triple A games
>those don't exist
fair point

Gen 6 graphics or bust.
PS2/Xbox/Gamecube were the peak for graphics and artstyles. Everything after was either too cartoony (usually Nintendo games), fake anime slop, or hyper realism.

have you ever made a large quality game before? if not i dont think you should be speaking on the topic

And unfortunately it's still the best on the market.
Sad state of game development brange.

unity rules, it's the one shining beacon of truth in the shitty post-apocalyptic gaming landscape

Unity was the first widely accessible 3D engine worth a damn and that's why we're here talking about it today. Everything that preceded it either sucked even more than it does or was only available to industry users.

your words are as empty as your changelog. the industry ill needs a developer such as you!

Better than UE.
Looks cleaner, responds quicker.
>but you can turn off everything in UE too
Why use UE then.

pretty good for 3d porn games at least, especially with open source devs like naelstrof. Wish more weggers realized that instead of falling into the trash heap that ue5

Is it ACTUALLY bad? I've recently started working on a PS2 style action game (think Onimusha).
Anonymous No.720360448 [Report]
>>720360156
Yes, every feature in it is too hard to use so bad for devs, and simultaneously too easy to use which is the reason we have so much shovelware made in it.
Just don't ask questions and hate it, okay? It's bad because I said so.

Godot would be better for that as the dev could distribute the full engine or any adjustments he did and the setup he is using.

I'm mulling over changing up one of my core mechanics because apparently a company holds a patent on it and it's pretty known for being lawyer-happy towards anyone making fansites around it.

I've been studying and using Unity for 15 fucking years. Spent countless hours trying to learn that shit + wasted hundreds of bucks on the Asset Store to implement basic QOL improvements and engine features that should've been in day 1.

It's never ever been a smooth ride.
If you let the program update itself, your project instantly breaks. Even if it's just patch that ups the version number by 0.0.1, you instantly get 300+ errors the next time you open your game.

Add in the yesteryear's payment + telemetry fiasco, and it's a mystery why anyone would want to use that shit.

its fun to make 3d art in, lots of user created plug-ins to get different visual effects and most are free.
