If you actually tried doing something in blender you would know that interface of it isn't user friendly and it boasts so many functions that if you can actually go from the default cube to something that actually works into a game engine you're bound to know retopo/remesh. The issue with tris is that you need to know how to implement LODs to make the game run well.

since the face isn't hand crafted they have no idea how to animate it properly so they just slap things together until its good enough and call it a day
everyone having off putting grimaces and getting weird chipmunk cheeks when they talk be damned because you spend 95% of the time looking at their back

there's a reason you rarely see any discussion of the remakes now unless its talking about how many things they just don't get right for inexplicable reasons because the FOTM is over

It's why every character takes months to make. from photoscanning, the nactually cleaning that scan up because it's unusuable. they don't slap anything together once the actor is fully captured you just do a regular mocap setup and it interpolates between those expressions that were captured.

Finally played RE4 Remake and it looks, plays and sounds so awful. I had to stop playing around 4 hours in because it was so horrible and unfun to play.
How the hell does it have so many glowing reviews, how the hell do so many of my online friends love this game when it's utter slop compared to the original.
I hated the RE2&RE3 remakes too but at least it was playable enough and different to the OGs enough that I could beat them once. RE4 feels too close to the original while controlling and being worse in every single way

pbr is literally just standardizing how materials are defined with parameters like roughness, metallicity, refraction, and radiosity. you can still experiment with them to do whatever you want. it's just that instead of eyeballing that your material is wood-like can you just look at established measurements for wood as a material and compare them. do you have to? no. i don't get the negative connotation here.

Compare the graphics of Crysis 2 and 3.
C2 looks good in general but the materials were all over the place, some objects were overly specular, glossy etc. Every artist had their own workflow to create specular maps and such, leading to a big incosistent mess. This was the reason why they introduced PBR in C3, and its a visually much more coherent game.
