The only time I ever gave my party members items was against Phantom in KH1. And the only reason for that is because unlike future games MP is a finite resource that doesn't regenerate on its own.

Goofy can also give you some MP from the MP he regenerates by taking damage. Assuming that he has the skill, you have 0 MP, he hasn't burnt his 1 MP before getting 2, he isn't dead, and he hasn't used it on Donald instead.
