That's very much intentional though, she's clearly supposed to be a saint'like figure. Even if she didn't want that herself. It's perfectly in line with the recurring theme of idol worship in the MGS series

Not really, other MGS games are more about the loss of faith in authority. In MGS3 its something much more personal and tragic (mother/mentor)
