the vita versions added some quality of life improvements over the original PSP versions, and every newer port inherits them. just play them on anything but PSP.
V3 is kinda scuffed on vita/switch/mobile, play it on PC or other consoles instead if possible. if for some reason you can't, switch and mobile are at least slightly better than vita.
you should also play ultra despair girls on PC if possible because the english vita version has a save eating bug and the PS4 version has a memory leak that makes it hang every 2 hours or so.

That’s not true. The Vita version of V3 is perfectly fine for what it is. But the anniversary edition on Switch and mobile is just a horribly optimized port of the Vita version, using all the same low res assets. It becomes a slideshow at times, and has crashing issues. The anniversary versions of 1 and 2 are bad for similar reasons, but they’re less graphically demanding, making the poor optimization less noticeable. Although there are some annoying bugs. Transparent effects won’t appear correctly, and the A button in 2 has the animation skip flag that should be tied to the B button for skipping.

my main criteria for calling V3 anniversary edition better than vita is the sound quality. even though they kept all the visual downgrades from the vita version for god knows why, the music and voices are all much higher bitrate and sound about the same as on PC and console.
on vita, the sound quality is noticeably poorer than other versions of the game even with the sound quality patch/DLC. without it it's downright AWFUL, but with it it's still substandard.
i have heard the switch version of V3 has some slideshow moments, particularly one in the last trial. i've heard it's not as bad if you play docked.
i'm curious how bad 2x2 for switch 1 will be since it looks to be similar fidelity to V3. hopefully it's a better showing than V3 for switch.

Hajime fucking dies checking that boat:
-No Hajime means no Izuru means less point in telling the base story, at least all the way to Izuru.
-No Hajime means the main driving force, the protag is absent means events will 100% derail
-Protag switch won't be with Nagito, too much of an unrelatable tard, at best momentarily in ch4.
-Protag switch is with Chiaki: Beloved, fully decrypted character, and VERY relatable due to her gaming schtick.

I've always liked Mahiru, and felt she got shafted out of all V2 characters. Teruteru was the default meme character with not much going on, and the imposter was only there to make us wonder what Byakuy was doing. The developers said that if Hajine couldn't be the protagonist, Mahiru would be. Mahriu is the only competent person that isn't a total nut job.

Some games are doing this weird shit and I dunno why. Shovel Knight DX for one, where you can either buy Treasure Trove with all of the content in one.. or the base game by itself with a bunch of extra features on top. At least DR2 with a what-if story is something interesting if it really is as big as the main game, but asking people to buy the game a second time is kind of retarded since, yeah, you can just buy DR2 for $20.

What they're doing is that their probably gonna retcon V3 and continue the story from 2. But being a visual novel, upgraded graphics isn't much a reason to re buy the game, so their doing 2 again but in a different way so that you now have a reason to play again as it's a new story with new deaths and murders to solve. The OG game being in it was probably just tacked on as a bonus.
