We had a Direct this morning highlighting the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. Miyamoto was even there. Did he announce the next big, mainline 3D Mario title? No. He was there to talk about the Nintendo museum. Then he talked about how Nintendo is sponsoring the Kyoto marathon. Then, he talked about the Mario theme park. Then, in his own words, he said that the "main event" of Mario's 40th anniversary will be the movie sequel. Taking all of that together, along with what you mention about the alarm clock and now the Talking Flower, it's clear that Nintendo is now big enough that they're branching out into other areas beyond video games (unfortunately so, in my opinion). It's Mario's 40th anniversary and instead of giving us some big, new Mario game, they're promoting a movie, a theme park, a marathon, and everything BUT video games
