It's really funny how companies have made sure that all discussions of their games and the quality of their games are not on official forums that they run. It's largely offloaded on to Reddit and content creators. You have unpaid Reddit mods who take their roles super serious and do all the moderation and play defense for the company that dropped the stinker. Same with the content creators, who got double fucked because they not only don't have a game that anyone wants to watch them make content for, they took the lion's share of the flak that should have been all directed directly at Firaxis/2k. I don't feel bad for PotatoMcWhiskey at all, but if I had to say whether I disliked Firaxis/2k or him more, it's obviously Firaxis/2k. I don't feel any ill will toward him, but he did make his own bed. How could this have been prevented? Don't get wined and dined by and get in bed with a company that isn't paying you a salary.

Civ 7 came out and it was an absolute disaster. A chosen few content creators willingly got wined and dined by Firaxis/2k and were probably in some way basically contractually obligated to not criticize the product, the product which deserved nothing but criticism. He shilled for Firaxis/2k, and a good deal of his audience turned on him, according to his perception. He then goes on to do two very important things: 1) he lies about playing Civ 7 but says it's fixed in a video, earning even more disdain from his waning audience and 2) then goes on to claim he's depressed because of all of it. Honestly, he made every wrong move. I don't feel bad for him whatsoever.

I shit you not, I've watched (and turned off) videos of his where he *sped* up his voice. I checked to make sure I wasn't running the video at 1.25x, which of course I wasn't, because I'm not zoomer scum. I am retarded millennial scum, thank you. The other youtuber boesthius was also wine and dined by Firaxis and ran shill ops for Civ 7 until very recently when he made a video and basically took back all of his praise and called the game an unfinished 5/10 instead of his initial rating of a 9/10. Maybe the time on the contract finally ran out and he was allowed to criticise it?
