It wouldn't have mattered. The hobby was taken over by NPC consumers who treat gaming like a time waster. The softball dad who fired up his PS once a year for the latest God of War, the soccer mom who screws around in switch here and then to check on her Animal Crossing island. Those people are the target of game companies now. Not the chuds who have 10s of thousands of hours logged in different games over the years. Since those NPCs only buy one of two games a year, they don't care how much they cost.
