Pointless and frustrating sequel that was only made because the first game sold better than expected

I don't know what you're talking about, it was a lot of fun and cut out all the timewasting shit from the first game
don't tell me you're a storyfag

I didn't see much of a problem with it outside the final boss and price. Feels more like an extended epilogue with some ideas they wanted to try

>"The original title won fans for its shocks and surprises; the second takes no risks. While its ultraviolence is slick and satisfying, its shtick has calcified"
Edge Magazine nailed it

I liked it but Jasper Bat Jr. was fucking bullshit

Having to grind for money and explore a dreary open-world in 1 was the key to making the combat sections enjoyable and rewarding. 2 removing the grinding and the open-world was a mistake.

This, without the quiet time and with the now gimped combat, it's just lazer sword musou

Edge was awesome, good magazine. They would clue me into cool new anime as well.

dropped it after killing that schoolgirl under the tree, the games are shit, people only cared because it was about an EPIC GAMER killing people on a console that only had games for children

Still better then Travis Strikes Again and 3

I can't really describe it since it's been years since I played it, but the gameplay felt like a case of "one-step forward, two-steps back."

I'd rank below TSA and (probably) above 3.

Leave it to a games journalist to have the most surface-level take imaginable.

MTV was cool at the time for the wrong reasons.

NMH2 criticized that.

Based. Worst gameplay in the series that the story doesn't save.
Anonymous No.720700230 [Report]
NMH is like Ninja Gaiden, in that it has multiple installments but only one of them is serviceable yet its fans pretend the series as a whole is superb

It isn't as good as the first game by any measure, but it is still a fairly soulful and funny and fun game with its share of memorable bits and segments.
Imagine something like the PWLBJ5 minigame and unlockable OVA being made today lel
It's also arguably the last good grasshopper manufacture game

>best ost on any Hack and Slash game ever
>Some of the best bosses in the franchise
But yeah, the camera was worse, the gameplay got less excited and the fucking dizzy time makes it a bad game, not just Jasper

I liked the open world part of the first game but I can't articulate why

Travis being some random dipshit in a shitty small town in california was a big part of his charm the first game. He didn't have a knockoff lightsaber and midlife crisis rocket motorcycle because he was a superhero assassin but because he was a impoverished dork who was frivolous with money.
From the second game onward he's the king of the underworld but still a middle aged man living in a motel and working temp jobs. It's still funny but a different and less subtle type of funny than the first game.

Suda lost it bros...he barely had it by TSA and 25th Ward but still...the king is dead......

Oh yeah, the OST is the best in the entire series. Something I didn't like about the gameplay was the hyper mode. On one of my playthroughs, I was playing on Sweet, and using the hyper mode against bosses was like tearing through wet toilet paper. I actually made a deliberate choice to avoid using during the Alice fight so that I could take in the atmosphere of the fight and actually play the game for more than a minute.

The best way I could describe it is "the unemployment vibe."

it's alright, I had some big problems with both the gameplay and the story but I still enjoyed playing it
it shouldn't exist though, NMH1 is the perfect game and it having any sequels at all ruins it story and themes

I beat him after 10 hours of nonstop trial and error. Jasper’s not hard, just fucking obnoxious especially in phase 2.
Honestly, you dodged a bullet. You didn’t miss anything.

I've only ever done it once.
Use Peony, don't get hit for the car phase. For the steroids phase your sword should be long enough you can hit him from outside his reach. For some reason this makes him less likely to use his teleport attacks.
Switch to Camellia when he starts teleport spamming and if you're lucky you'll have enough controller-shakes left over to trade until he dies.
Mecha phase is victory lap, just play it safe.

Thanks for the advice, but it's not like I plan to replay 2 anytime soon.
>Switch to Camellia
That's another thing that bugged about the game: how long it takes to switch out weapons.

NMH2 is a weird game in that the first 15% and last 15% of the game totally fucking suck but the 70% in between is pretty decent. It still feels somewhat pointless, doesn't build on the gameplay of the first game at all, and has pretty much nothing that's as memorable as the average boss in the first game in it, but I don't hate it. Sylvia and Dr. Naomi's tits and Shinobu's ass were the best parts of the game.
Anonymous No.720706396 [Report] >>720708143
Why did they make Travis cool in the second game? The first game was fun because Travis is a total dork that collects coconuts for hours to fund some bimbo's vacation, all while thinking he's cool. The second game treats him like he's actually a hero, not a katana wielding otaku. He even gets the girl in the end.

I like it more than TSA but I prefer NMH3, warts and all. To me NMH3 delivers a similarly throwaway sequel but has better combat and enemy design to show for it.

1 > 3 > 2 > TSA would be my ranking. I didn't care for TSA much at all.

He's 27 in the first game and 30 in the second.

same reason why the first one is a tragedy hiding under the weird funny stuff while the others are just weird and funny but optimistic
Suda started self-inserting as Travis, pretty sure he admitted it or said something similar to that
