Cars control like gondolas, you can drive straight into "walls" and nothing happens, walls are blocked off by invisible walls for some reason (too lazy to animate ramming an actual wall?)

Tried this game because MK World is disappointing but this is so, so, SO much fucking worse than even the shittiest Mario Kart. What the FUCK is this crap? What is wrong with people? Also it's called Crossworlds but you can only pick from some shitty Sonic characters and tracks and apparently 90% the game is paid DLC? But this is just fine these days I guess

The characters bring it up ingame. If Sonic raced them on foot it would be unfair. Because they're all in vehicles they can actually have a chance at beating him. Sonic is participating because he isn't an autist and has a wide variety of hobbies, including an interest in vehicles which meshes with his love for racing. Riders also shows how Sonic has a very competitive spirit. He could beat Jet if he just abused his speed but it wouldn't be beating Jet on his own level, it'd be meaningless.

Yeah, a consistent trait of Jet's is that he's a trash talking asshole but he genuinely enjoys competing on an even level. If I remember correctly he even shittalks Cream in this game and if she attacks him he just calls her 'ruthless' with an awed tone. He's impressed rather than pissed or upset. IDW also shows how the Babylon Rogues all have a strong sense of honor and loyalty to one another, Jet has a chance to just run away while Storm and Wave give him a chance and he chooses to stick by their side and (most likely) die.
