Hopefully positively, I'm sick to death of every game using one of like 4 fucking engines. I miss when games felt different from each other instead of all dipping into the same pool of stock assets and features for their shitty cobbled together "games" that amount to recycled assets with a fancy coat of paint to make it look like it isn't a bunch of shit thats already in 5000 other games made in the last 3 years.

I hope I never have to play another game made in Blender, Unreal or Unity ever again

You can't retroactively change the license, not without either the consent of all contributors to the Blender project, or by replacing the code contributed by people who don't agree with the relicensing.

As far as general use goes, the only real benefits of the new UI was just not using full menu-bar space on each viewport (more real-estate to work with), and making the god damn menu on the Properties viewport vertical, so you're not needing mousewheel it frequently like you used to.

EEVEE was the actual godly update, followed by whatever major version added Geometry Nodes.

blender is literally the best full stack 3D package, nothing compares to it. zbrush might be ahead in sculpting workflow, and maya slightly ahead in rigging/animation out of the box, but blender is full stack and nothing else comes close. the only reason it's not industry standard is because 3ds max and maya are so ingrained and studios are too lazy to uproot their archaic pipelines. a lot of newer studios choose blender, and even then established studios are making the switch as it becomes even more feature rich with each iteration. to call it hobbyist is ignorant as fuck.

why do so many people here larp as experts when they're absolute complete fucking dumbass consumers. it's embarrassing to see.
Anonymous No.721084354 [Report]
>>721083438
the only practical use for that shit is like a chain of modifiers.

You can't still do full modelling with it, but you can do stuff like make a low poly model then instance a third mesh in every vertex, so is useful for things like grass.

Or another use would be to edit an already existing mesh and generate variations of like width and height.

For character generation is not very useful yet, except as sliders to change limbs lenghts.

Most of the cherrypicked results don't use the geometry nodes for 100%, but more as a type of procedural shader nodes to edit the meshes.
Anonymous No.721084357 [Report] >>721084958
>>721084138
>are so ingrained and studios are too lazy to uproot their archaic pipelines
Problem is a lot of projects run 3-5 years, and time is money, and a lot of software does not play nice with one another in the pipeline, which VFX studios are incorporating a lot of these days. You'd have to train your staff, and have technical staff handy to write up any plugins necessary to get shit working the way your other programs expect for interacting together.

Or you can just keep throwing tens of thousands of dollars on Maya licenses for the team.

I'm aware that blender isn't a game engine, but I was too eager too shit on people using prebaked slop engines that I figured I'd just be wrong and angry instead of trying to rewrite the post in a way that was still on topic for a blender thread.

I don't actually have any strong feelings for or against blender, I just slept poorly and I hate living in this era of games being slapped together using engine presets for different stock genres and a shitload of generic shit from an asset store.

it's not about training with software. an individual artist can easily make the switch within a week, most artists who work with maya are already familiar with blender.
the issue is with the pipeline, the studio will have proprietary tools, assets that use specific formats, and custom bridges with things like render farms. not to mention the long term business relationships with autodesk, and the execs will view any drastic change as a potential risk even if it'll save money in the long term.

>How is Kdenlive these days? I remember using it for some small videos 5 years ago but it crashed too often on Windows for my liking.
Tbh it still has a weird crashing bug, I don't think I've experienced it as much recently, but for as long as I can remember its done this weird shit where if I try to import a clip with a resolution it hasn't dealt with before and I tried to create a profile for that resolution and framerate it would crash and I'd have to start it up again, but then it would work fine. Just for whatever reason it really doesn't like that first time that you would try to import something with a funky new aspect ratio/framerate.

I recently built a new computer and installed a fresh copy of it though, and while I haven't been using it a tonne I don't recall having that issue since switching to my new PC.

So I dunno if the issue was with me using an out of date version of the software and if I would have updated then the bug would have been patched but I was too lazy to install updates, or if it was an issue with my hardware being too weak and it was just an issue of me trying to do shit my computer wasn't all that great at doing.

Either way, it works great, but yeah despite liking the software the thing with it crashing the first time I try to start working on a video is a bit irritating and now that you've mentioned it I'll be keeping an eye out for that issue when I use it on this new rig.

I never claimed to know about the specifics, I don't really care enough to know about them I just know that almost every game I play that runs on these engines feels bad to play for both obvious and subtle reasons and I remember not having this issue back when almost every studio wasn't using the same engine

Most AAA still aren't using it. The current state of Blender is more than good enough for most indie's needs, so it doesn't matter if the software goes downhill from v5.0 onwards.

I'm mostly surprised Blender hasn't tried to push out their own service for license-free assets. Common configurable materials, brushes, generic props, etc. We have add-ons to access libraries (some paid) from other sources, but nothing in an official capacity.

I am STILL fucking baffled that our Blender Scene and Bones got Collection systems added, but Shape Keys remain woefully limited without add-ons. Can't even fucking drag'n'drop them to better organize things, gotta mash that Up-arrow 20 times. That and vertex groups, just do them both at the same time so I can arrange them in an Armature Hierarchy manner.
