I attribute the Wii and DS to the reason I even kept playing games after SEGA dropped out with the Dreamcast. I jumped to GameCube which was honestly a mistake in hindsight, but I said before I specifically asked for the GameCube at the time. If they ended up going with a GameCube 2 along with Sony going with PS3 and Xbox going with the 360, I 100% wouldn't have video games as a main hobby. Wii was different and actually felt new and I liked that about it and the games on it for the most part. Not every game hit, but at least things were interesting. Same thing with Wii U although that never got a chance to show it's true potential. I do miss that era of Nintendo despite people not being as high on it.
That said, DS was always liked generally though. 3DS only really started getting some positive attention, but still, both DS and 3DS are viewed more fondly than the Wii and Wii U respectively. As for me today, I've basically just got the console gaming retirement platform (PC) and I just play on that when I have the time and older consoles I have.
