Eh, Dead Space's death animations weren't really all that great. One of the big things is that they were just way too over the top. They also felt too quick and clean if that makes any sense. Necromorphs just sliced through Isaac or pulled him apart with too little effort and at very specific parts to make the dismemberment system easier to work with presumably. The result was that a lot of the death animations felt less like a man being violently dismembered and more like a legoman being plucked apart. As shitty as Calipso Protocol was and as fucking retarded as a lot of its death animations were (especially the infected going fist of the north star on you), some of the body effects were a lot better, especially deaths involving your character's skull getting dented. Sometimes less is more and as long as it's done right, your character dying with his skull dented several inches in can have a lot more of an "JESUS CHRIST" effect than being outright decapitated
