first one has a far better wanted system, and the gunplay is far better. the 1st one is nice an snappy, really makes you feel like a cowboy, the ragdolls are nice fun the sound design for the repeaters is so satisfying. while the second one did have that really fun slow-mo of the gore, the first one just had better gunplay. first one was an awesome spaghetti western, the soundtrack feels so much more raw and rusted than 2. 2 broadly as a game feels like a cinematic smooth polished experience, 1 mechanic, sound and theme wise fits the spaghetti western genre so much better. everything is so much more rough and cut. also there character's somehow feel more expressive in 1 than in 2 at times. it has zero (0) wokeslop outside of that 1 line john says to bonnie macfarlane. character's are so entertaining to watch, everyone feels so deranged and like a caricature. 1 is almost post-apocalyptic in style. it's shorter and is far less of a slog, though some of the missions could be better. also some of the cutscenes are masterfully made and written, i still rewatch dutch's cutscenes from time to time. they really feel so well-made and suspenseful. the game in general just breathes a lot more than 2. 2 is kind of overwhelming, versus 1 just let's you really feel the west. that an mexico being a really cool area to explore.

and not to mention 1 unironically is more beautiful than 2. sunrise and sunset are fucking magnificent.
