This game is pretty fun
I suck at parrying, but I muddle through

Why is it this game fun while Silksong is anti-fun?

You have poor fundamentals and rely on crutch mechanics like parries and i-frames to carry you through a game.

>Reach centaur boss
>Nothing too bad, mostly easy and readable attacs
>Except he has a quick (Non-crimson) lunge uppercut attack that is utterly unparryable for some reason
What the fuck is this, is shit like this gonna get more common?

i think level design and not having nigger runbacks and fights before bosses might be a bigger reason. Plus the story is more engaging, the world has more interesting story. combined with a great soundtrack and nice artwork (cant and wont compare those two to silksong) makes Nine souls into an amazing game

You can't parry it because you're too close and he's running into you. Centaur is disproportionately hard because you have so few tools, even on my replay where I got several bosses first try that I had struggled with in my first playthrough, he mulched me for a bit. His job is to teach you this isn't Hollow Knight and movement won't save you. Position to be able to parry, don't position to evade and parry if you fail to do so.
Anonymous No.723054868 [Report]
>>723054485
it is, in fact, parryable. if you’re having trouble facing the right direction, you can do a jump parry, which is omnidirectional
Anonymous No.723055009 [Report]
>>723054617
also note that direction you are facing matters, as the parry doesnt havr a 180 degree coverage. you should look the direction in which the attack goes, and face thr opposite way, so, if the attack goes right to left, you need to look to the right. even if the boss is like, behind you and the attack hapoens nearly behind your back. i had that become a real issue in two other bossfights after that too

I nearly beat the entire game 24 hours after I purchased it but I stopped at Eigong and I think I'm just gonna call it quit. I went to check a video to see what I'm getting into and it is exactly what I feared: she's a stupid damage sponge that attacks all the time and I'm gonna have to repeat her first two forms over and over just to die in seconds at the third form which is the only way to learn the new attack patterns. Excuse me but where' the fun. At least Lady Ethereal could be killed much faster in her first two forms and she basically always kept the same moveset the whole time except for one new move to learn how to parry in phase 3. It was minimal annoyance and even still it was bullshit.

Also, Eigon is just god awful boring as a character. Even fucking Yanlao is more endearing and entertaining.

As someone who also very nearly dropped the game at Eigong - Eigong is worth it. Take a break for a day or two, but once you actually get a feel for her patterns it's one of the most intricate and rewarding boss fights I've ever experienced.

Started playing it lately too.
I thought the MC would be another boring deaf puppet or at best a boring dark lone wolf who barely talks, but he's a pretty cool guy.
Very fun game, and so far, it's sensibly challenging, but dying isn't frustrating at all.
There's something wrong with the translation though. Doesn't really have mistakes or anything, just feels like it was made by someone whose English is very good, but not native.
Also, what's the point of the talismans, if you need to activate them right after applying or else they disappear? It could as well be a normal after-parry finisher.
Anonymous No.723057752 [Report] >>723058323
Did the dev retcon the origin of the "Tianhuo" that caused Solarians to die and turn to fruits? For the majority of the game it seems to be written like something of spiritual origin that has always been inherent to Solarian cycle of life. The Fusang roots gave birth to Solarian civilization, but eventually all Solarian souls are "called back" by the Tianhuo which Heng refers as returning to the Tao. Those who succumb to Tianhuo even leave behind "Tao fruits" which has part of their skills and memories. So there's a pretty big soul rebirth metaphor going on.

Then you get to the later part of the game and lol Eigong accidentally created it, lol it was actually a modern virus so Heng's traditional/spiritual perspective stops making sense, but lol the fruits are also found in the sealed Tomb of Lear from before Eigong made it, and lol if you "remove the Tianhuo genes" from a Solarian they turned into a housecat. Is it me or did the story went full retard and ruined the beautiful soul rebirth metaphor it had going the whole time?

When you parry, you get a qi charge. Talismans let you apply qi charges, which deals damage and converts internal damage (which heals over time) into true damage same as how your internal damage converts into true damage if you get hit.

Depending on the talisman style, you charge it in different ways and it requires different amounts of qi. Especially when you're starting it can be hard to weave into your combat rhythm but it's a very important tool, particularly against bosses.

3000 years of research and Eigong can't even determine a transmission vector, it's still as open, it just explains why Eigong in particular went bonkers over the situation and why Yi ended up sucking root before the game even starts.

I think you're half right, but it's the reverse - they wrote the overall plot before writing the individual dialogue sequences and found Heng's perspective to be a lot more compelling than their initial plot reasoning but were kind of locked into the plot at that point, so they just left it as open as possible so she doesn't look stupid.

I think the translation was fine. The flow of the sentences is different from normal english structure, lots of short direct sentences, and I'm pretty sure it's because that's how it was written in the original language and the translation kept it. I much prefer that approach than rewriting everything like an english speaker would talk, it keeps the original personality of the characters.

The talismans have a lot of small interesting things going on. It's a dash-through-the-enemy ability so it's a movement ability for clutch repositioning. It benefits from "killing blow", a mechanic not explained anywhere in the game which cause certain attacks to deal up to 50% more damage but only if that damage boost will bring the enemy health to zero, the last hit of the triple slash and Cloud Piercer also have finishing blow but Talisman benefits it the most. Talisman can also be used as a ministun if you equip the right jade. It also "detonates" all internal damage which is pretty big bonus. Lastly there are three styles of Talisman skill which are quite different from one another.

I've played a lot of Chinese translated games at this point and Nine Sols is about as good as it gets, that characters even sound like they're addressing each other and not just speaking aloud to an empty room is more of a rarity than the norm.

It being a bit stilted kind of helps the generally hyper-polite antiquated society it's about and makes it more surprising when the orgies show up. Maybe that's cope but these translations can get real bad.

Minimal platforming, no contact damage, actual animations instead of drag-and-drop and white flashes, sprites aren't scribbles, the story is actually interesting to follow, isn't as faggy overall as hommow knights.

I'm with you that even when it was stilted it lent the game an air of foreign poetry that suited the tone and the setting. Compared to something like Wukong where I could barely follow the plot it was absolutely breezy.

It's not worth it. I learned her fight and I honestly regret it, it was not fun. It's sad because I enjoyed all the other boss fights, some I really loved. There is zero chance to attack her, you can only talisman. In my opinion, that's bullshit.

I was whapping her to increase DPS, there's a few open spots. It'd be hell fighting her without that "perfect parries inflict internal damage" skill but otherwise I thought it was fine, took less time to learn than Sword Saint Isshin did.
The only timing you have to spot-learn is her regular swipe and jab combos, everything else you can react to just fine and she doesn't gain any new regular attacks per phase, no Sister Friede ambiguous telegraph mixup bullshit here. Her phase 3 additions are a bit pathetic, that's just free damage.

I did *not* expect the last minute twist that Yi was the mastermind behind the idea of kidnapping humans and harvesting their brains as biological computers. That's an extreme level of fucked up. With that kind of baggage in his past it's no wonder he was so distant with Shuanshuan the whole time, it wasn't because he's a cool stoic warrior, it's because he does have feelings and he hated himself to death. What's worse is that he seemed to find Goumang morally repugnant for using zombie brain soldiers, to the point that he skipped on giving her a warrior's death and instead locked her in endless torture, but was that hatred basically directed at himself since he did so much worse? Did he do to her what he wished he could do to himself? He tells Kuafu that Goumang deserved it for the crimes she committed against others and Kuafu acted strange about it and said Sols should look after each other, and in retrospective he probably wasn't trying to defend Goumang, since she is a smug cunt nobody likes, he was probably trying to convince Yi to not strap himself to a perpetual torture machine once he's done saving the day, which he might just have done if he didn't sudoku by nuclear arrow.

I played Nine Sols before Sekiro and I think which of Eigong/Isshin takes longer is purely a matter of which one you fight first. They're very similar fights, unsurprisingly.
Anonymous No.723059905 [Report]

Honestly I think he would've done that to Goumang if she didn't refill the coffeepot after emptying it. Eigong intentionally had them at loggerheads. It's possible if he encountered her later he could've been swayed to spare her entirely, as you're not wrong that a lot of his anger at her is anger at himself. But they really didn't like each other.

I think Yi "blamed" Goumang for coming up with the brain computing concept, on top of the zombie soldier thing.
Also he probably would've done pretty equally fucked up stuff to all the Sols if they didn't keep dying or killing themselves before he's able to get his hands on them. Outside of the ones he clearly didn't even want to fight like Lady Ethereal or the Incest Theater Kids.

I really liked how Yi didn't even want to bother considering the incest duo as part of his vendetta. He was so angry at every Sol during the whole game until now but then he took one look at the twin's sad insane delusional orgy and he just didn't want to deal with any of this.

You know if old man Yanlao had lived for more than 10 seconds Yi would've crucified that little bastard, he was impossibly mad at him for wasting battery space on old junk like it was important to take that off Penglai at all.
I suppose Ji wasn't part of the vendetta either but that's more because Yi didn't know a thing about him.

I mostly understand how talismans work, I just find it strange that we have two actions: apply and detonate, but can't really use them separately, so one action "apply+detonate" should be enough.
It would be a different matter, if applied talismans stayed on enemies instead of disappearing after ~1 second. Then you could for example leave one on a boss and use it tactically, detonate it when they use an attack you're bad at evading to interrupt them or something.

As for the translation, I finished a Chinese "J"RPG called Mato Anomalies, and the English version sounded a lot like Nine Sols, so I guess it's because of differences between the two languages.
Anonymous No.723062197 [Report]
>>723061694
Talismans inflict a lot of internal damage so even if you don't have the time to detonate it's worth your time to just slap them on and keep stacking that damage until you have a safe enough move. Or just use Water Flow, whatever.

Not being able to detonate talismans at will is a bit jarring but that's the game, I guess.
Anonymous No.723063498 [Report]
>>723056765
Or you could just take the plunge
And sit down and think about how she changes n each phase to punish you playing the exact same as the previous phase.
You cheese the phase 3 opener by using arrows(forced stun), or by dodging the screen wide screen instead of parrying it.

>>723057743
>>723057743
>Also, what's the point of the talismans,
They scale with BOTH internal damage, and the amount of ki Charges you have.

So they don't really exist as a mechanic until you unlock Unbound counter, and get more raw access to inflicting internal damage.
At which point you also got enough levels to have 4-5 Qi, at which point Full Control and the other variant of detonation finally outpace Water Flow.

The version they go flying with isn't as bad, but it still kinda do that. You see it in both Goumang and Eigongs soulscapes.
Its also suppose to be why Yi is more coherent than the rest of the cast, outside of the Twink
