RTX has nothing to do with natural/artificial lighting as in movies. It's about physically accurate lighting. You can have raytraced lamplight (artificial light) or raytraced sunlight (natural light).
Anonymous No.723061919 [Report]

It is and it's not. RT and PT depend heavily on the implementation and even the scene. It can be barely noticeable or a night/day difference. But it will always have a massive performance impact. That is why tech companies are pushing upscaling and framegen tech so much.

When is RTX truly necessary in a game? Because as far as I know it only benefits FPS shooters and horror. But devs can easily just use baked lighting instead of putting all the strain on the user's hardware.

SSR and RTX are the same flavor of shit pushed by shills like DF. Only difference is that the checks stopped coming for one so they can tell the truth about SSR now, even if it’s only to promote RTX. Reflections except for mirrors and water almost always make a scene look gamey because of the shiny surface materials used for the reflections. RTX lighting is okay but often looks worse compared to raster in the same game because it lacks the manual touch and needs denoising.

There's two cases of ray tracing. Either it makes basically no visual difference at all, or it does but it still doesn't look significantly better than shiny reflections in non-RT games. It's just that in that particular game, you can only get them with RT which you can use to "prove" that hey RT isn't pointless. But at heavy performance cost, of course. Maybe if I really stopped to inspect I could appreciate how physically accurate and realistic the lighting is in a way that a shiny older game wouldn't be - but if I have to do that that's already enough to prove to me that it's not fucking worth it. It better be something obvious and visceral.
