It's shitty but it's on you I think. Running airport/flight company costs a lot of money so 5 minute delay would possibly cost them more than the 3ds is worth. And there's no guarantee for them you'll find it and leave and not try to delay things more.

That sucks. I'm hyper paranoid about losing things while traveling after I left my teddy bear in a hotel when I was 9. It's the worst feeling. Always check shit before you leave, look back and make sure nothing fell out of your pocket, etc. A few extra seconds of diligence can save you days and weeks of headache.

I'm the same way. Left an action figure at a Hollywood video when I was 4 or 5 and had an absolute meltdown. Lucky for me my dad went back to the store, and found it, had to pay a kid who picked it up a dollar but he got Spider Man back. I'm 36 years old and it has irrevocably fucked me up to this day that I'm super paranoid about leaving shit behind, to the point I have panic attacks on the rare occasion it does happen. I moved last year and there are a few things I just can't find despite being super methodical about packing and unpacking and honestly it's making me sweat right now just thinking about it. I hate being a mentally ill retard.

Also, I think there was an incident when I was 2 or 3 where I lost a balloon and I remember for the longest time outright refusing them when offered because of it. I grew out of that eventually, but I have this distinct memory of when I was in 1st grade being offered a balloon and kind of panicking at the prospect and refusing, causing the adult offering it to me to be very confused. God, I'm so fucked up.
