Digimon won with CS and HM. Yeah they had obvious issues but they were definitely better than Pokemon games at that time.
Pokémon was bound to eventually become a slop low quality franchise because that's the fate of any franchise that's too big to fail. They don't even have to release games in a playable state they'll sell millions anyways
