Karl, the dwarf, isn't a gold mining obsessed autist and just wants to explore the world seeing new things. This makes him open-minded and ok hanging out with "freaks".
The black "root mother" is a single mom who keeps making questionable fucked up decisions but is the leader of the player characters.
Theres also a couple musclebound big ladies, an orc who gives tutorial training and a pirate captain that takes you between stages.
As a selling point, the devs put out a bunch of design devlogs and praised themselves for designing those parts. Actually playing it though, none of it matters or feels preachy. It's put into the world pretty well in my opinion. But now you know what people are bitching about.
