Musou Warriors thread

Whats your favorite Musou series?
Whats your favorite Character(s)?
Will Koei F up DW3 remaster(remake) by turning it into soulless 1vs1000 as oppose to peon being a menace?

I'm currently playing SW2 XL upscaled on widescreen emu and God did this game age well. Thinking of giving the Orichi serie a try after I'm done with it. I wish I had a second player to play with

I liked Nagamasa
Also I wonder why they dropped the idea of Tadakatsu being the Lu Bu of SW (as in, having super armor and able to kill you in two shots), he's like that in SW2 but in SW4 he's not

Good question. I forgot if they gave Keiji Maeda the Lu Bu treatment in SW1. But Honda is definitely the Lu Bu of SW2. My only complain with SW2 XL is how you can unlock special skills for an exorbitant price only to learn that they are PER CHARACTER only. But using the special skill to be able to use special attack anywhere mid combo bring this game to another level of satisfaction gameplay wise.

Favorite char is Mitsuhide Akechi for me

The most overhyped thing about the Boomer games is the SW1 castle stages. They're the opposite of fun.

The ninja tower thing? Its super fun. Its the only game that also has lot of environmental traps.that the later game miss. I also miss the grittier dark vibe of the first samurai warriors. Too bad there was no right analog camera on this one

Its well liked. You are encourage to make your custom warrior and choose different historical campaigns to conquer Japan. But since there's so many scenarios its hard to stick and level with a premade character. I personally found the battles to suck because you have to destroy a million of sub captains to advance territory. I found SW2 XL to be better overall and the Mercenary mode actually more fun than empire. The prep/tactic phase of Empire feels a bit tacked on

i like how tough it can be but it does kinda have an issue of a lack of unique officers for an empires setting due to being released before 2XL for some reason, and for better or worse, there is never a giga power to take down in a run compared to it's counterpart of the same era, DW5E, where Cao Cao or Liu Bei will always become a major threat if not taken out early.

I think Dynasty Warriors Origins might actually be pretty up there for me, they did succeed at their goal of bringing back a lot of the difficulty and friction that was present in the earlier games
>favorite character
Zhou Tai goes in all fields, the ancient Chinese samurai himself
It's really funny how Zhou Tai got the same treatment as basically any other katana wielder or iaijutsu character in Japanese fiction after DMC3 Special Edition released and Vergil served as inspiration, and DW7 came out to refresh a bunch of characters' movesets from where they'd basically stayed static since DW3 unless they were a newcomer

Warriors Orochi's gimmick is largely the team-swap gimmick combined with Dynasty Warriors characters and Samurai Warriors characters both behaving totally as they do in their own games (often with no alterations), can't really go wrong

Recommend WO3 DE for sure, solid game and interesting for having Dead or Alive/Ninja Gaiden characters (Ryu is a good adaptation of himself in particular, doesn't play like any other katana or ninja character). Played WO4, it's built on Dynasty Warriors 8 and it sure feels like it, also turns into magic spam. Funny for introducing Greek deities to the supernatural folderol going on and Zeus started another war and summoned Chinese and Japanese heroes because he was bored

Dynasty Warriors 8 XLCE and Dynasty Warriors Origins are the most solid, Warriors Orochi 3 and 4 are also good

If you want any of DW8XLCE's DLC, just pirate it, almost all of it is tiny shit that costs way too much. Alternatively buy it on Nintendo Switch (or pirate it for there and play it in an emulator lol) since it's technically "Definitive Edition" and contains all that.

That carries over to Warriors Orochi 4 since all DW stuff is lifted from 8XL, works even better there because WO in general lets you get way sillier with stat-ups and speed-ups than main games. Hilarious how fucking Sonic fast you could get with Zhou Tai air attacks

100% agree. The first's tone is rather unique compare to any other warrior games. It feels dark with a sens of urgency and heavier tragedy. SW2 added a lot of colors to its palette while refining the gameplay by a lot so it still take the top spot for me. I'm not interested by the modern warrior games where everything is anime colorful with over the top fighting style. I prefered when you see small units of 5 stacked soldiers compare to just a blob of peons swarming all your screen. The missions are super objective focus and I don't get why they scrapped the renforcement gate captains that gave a real strategy flow to the fields.

we already see the movesets and musou's are the same thing from DW3 tho, even with more enemies on screen there's no way it can be the exact same experience as 7/8 because those movesets were not designed to be as destructive.

In general it sounds like Koei-Tecmo's DW team wants to retvrn to the early PS2 days in scope, difficulty, player satisfaction and general theming, I think a DW3 remake so they can re-figure out what works from that is a great idea presonally

If they cared about that Origins would have been an actual reboot with the characters people cared about not the shitty donut steel OC and the fucking god awful plot that went with it.
I'm so fucking angry with what they did with Origins, even if the gameplay was great overall.
Also, DW3 remaster is a lazy cashgrab like almost every remaster ever made, and if the MC from Origins is a playable character for some stupid fucking reason (as teased at the end of the trailer) I will not be touching this version of the game.

WO3. 4 is just a more unbalanced version of 3 with some magic gimmick. Though since you prefer the SW character you'd probably like WO4 as well since the SW side of the roster is more fleshed out and rush attack is OP when you get into endgame.

DW5 > DW5 Empires > Warriors Orochi 1 > Warriors Orochi 2 = DW5 Xtreme Legends > Samurai Warriors 2

Played SW1 on xbox eons ago and vaguely remember it. Not too fond of SW series because it felt weird compared to DW, but they were "okay" in WO.
Played DW6 on PS2. It took about 5 minutes before we ejected the CD and never touched the game or any newer entries ever again.
Xtreme Legends 5 is low because it feels like an expansion pack to the game rather than a seperate title. The XL missions are VERY fun, but the custom character campaign is unfortunately very painful to play.

You should give SW2 a try. Its by far my favorite of them all. It has way more gameplay variety than any DW mainline games too with the Normal, Charge and Special characters. They also nuked the bow with R1 to give 2 special moves to everyone which further enhance what I said. Thats from someone who started at DW3 all the way to 8.

Capcom should do a new Sengoku Basara too

Gundam Musou 1 was full of first-entry jank but had way more charm with the inter-character interactions (like Puru copying how Domon summons his Gundam)
2 improved on the gameplay but the writing got a bit weaker as a result.
3 has the best gameplay of the trilogy but the writing sucks ass. Characters got lumped into vaguely idealogically similar teams and barely actually interact directly - talking "at" eachother, but never really "to" eachother.

Reborn doesn't exist. The combat became ultra-weightless mashy (even by musou standards) garbage and the writing is basically deviantart fanfiction tier madlibs.

Samurai Warriors 5 had the best movesets in the series and Im tired of pretending that exchangable weapons are always bad. Its nice to be able to use different movesets without switching to a character I dont give a shit about. I think the best compromise is turning custom characters into a proper series staple you can use in Musou mode already without skipping out on it every other mainline title.

First stages are really rough with lv1 chars here but eventually you get good weps and enough EXP to steamroll anything.
