What's meta?
Anonymous No.723195278 [Report]
>gameplay loop
literally as old as the concept of games itself
>meta
at least as old as Chess, obviously more so if you count real warfare.
>lore
as old as history as a discipline

Spectators are not supposed to peek behind the curtain

I'm still bewildered that every Jewtuber on the planet woke up one day and decided to use the word LORE in everything. I just automatically tune out when I see or hear it now.

But all three of those things are important to a game and explaining a game to someone.
>Lore
What is going on in the world, what frames the game and how the story progresses. That is fine.
>Meta
Depends on how you're using this. It's just what you learn while playing the game and how you apply that knowledge. That is fine. If you use meta as in "You have to play this specific character" or if you say stupid shit like claim a certain armor set is the meta in a monster hunter game you are full blown retarded. But if you use it to label the knowledge and skills you develop while playing the game, that is fine
>Gameplay loop
What you spend the bulk of your time doing. All games can usually have a tidy little loop you go through while playing it. There isn't many games that wildly chamge the gameplay while you progeess through it. It may have plenty of little minigames to play with but the gameplay loop is the bulk of what you actually do while to play. That is fine.

There is plenty of other things that you can chat about while talking about a game. These three terms aren't EVERYTHING a game is but it's the bulk of it and usually contains the important information people want to know or discuss. Why do you have an aversion to these three things? Because someone on reddit said "meta" and that made you mad?
