It's more like gaming culture shifted and outright changed the definition of roguelike despite those anons being correct in the classical definition.
It reminds me of the conversation that plagued /vrpg/ back in the day, what defines an RPG? People wanted it defined since different people expect different mechanics in their games, either more role-playing or just combat numbers.
Going back to Roguelike, I suggest people create a new definition to define a literal clone of Rogue since you're not going to win the cultural battle for reclaiming the genre name.
