What percentage of the population knows this word? Verisimilitude?
In your opinion?
I'm sure the devs and writers knew people would look that word up in a dictionary. Except for those who went to art or literature school.

If you understand how words are broken down to their latin roots you could easily guess what this word means, but to answer it question this is probably the first time 99% of their players ever saw the word.

translation: art should not imitate life, it should say something about life without imitation

Probably just a poor translation where other words you could use here would be just as awkward.

He says "Le peinture n'est pas une question de ressemblance, mais d'essence" in French, so literally "Painting is not a matter of resemblance, but of essence". It's odd they chose to translate resemblance to verisimilitude. They're not the same thing.

That statistic includes boomers who for all their faults had basic reading proficiency, it's worse if you control for age. Writing such as OP easily filters more than 2/3 of gamers in the US.

It sounds like "similarity", so you should be able to mentally bruteforce your way to the actual meaning based on that.

It might be some classic 'reading in', but you could potentially say that using a word like verisimilitude here it to better characterize Verso as someone intelligent and that he's getting carried away when talking about something that he cares more about.

As opposed to Pinky and the Brain, which was clearly never educational. Especially not when they did fucking educational song segments.

How did you come to that conclusion? What I was getting at is all those old cartoons used vocabulary and taught little kids about stuff most high schools don't even touch today.

Verisimilitude is not that big of a word, try reading something that isn't basket weaving forum posts or online brainrot.

To be honest, "resemblance" and "verisimilitude" seem to imply Verso has a different understanding of Maelle depending on if the player uses English or French.
"Resemblance" implies Verso thinks/knows that Maelle is an underachiever and settles for "good enough"
"Verisimilitude" on the other hand implies Alicia is a perfectionist and gets herself caught up in the details, which holds back her growth in painting skills
