Yes. As software dev you straight up make 3x the money if you work in medical or finance. Game devs are the absolute bottom, lowest paid and lowest skilled developers. They're trash and unless the engine has a million guardrails they will fuck up.

>non game dev complains about something they have no idea how works
There's a reason why game devs make certain choices that might seem dumb from an outside perspective

>Could form unions and force all AAA companies in the USA to pay up better wages or outsource them all to India Saudi Arabia and the 3rd world
>Instead most developers sit in their ass with social anxiety and would rather be wageslaved to nothing

They just let themselves get walked over completely.

IT industry is a libertarian-meritocracy cult, they see anyone who struggles as a low-skilled free rider who deserves to die by starvation

I don't know about 3x, but....
>i worked in game dev (browser games)
>quit to make my own game
>ran out of money in 2 years and published
>sold barely anything
>got a job as a webdev for insurance company
>several years later, i'm upper middle class and never worry about money

Unions only work in conservative enviorments, like construction or driving. IT is a progressive enviorment, the skills, techniques, setups and norms change all the time. Newcomes are often better prepared than old timers. This is a bad setup for a union.

Makes so much sense.

This is true for all creative endeavours. Videogames was never an essential or flourishing market just like sculpting. Unless you have a job under a gigantic corporation's art team or have an endless budget for the design of a space youre not going to make alot of money being a sculptor, youd do it for the love of sculpting.

The issue arises when one sculptor makes a 3km high perfect statue of the Emperor of Mankind and sculpting becomes a highly sought after skill that attracts retards whose only exposure to it is playdo

The problem is that major companies just cycle fresh graduates in and out too fast for any organization to take place in the labor force.
Fundamentally, there's too many people who "want to work in games" to unionize.

This is somewhat true for IT but vastly untrue for games. The actual tools and processes aren't what makes devs suitable, the experience at making the right choices is.

Wasn't there some shit about the 3D Pokemon games having one character modeled like a dozen different times?

This board is for ANONYMOUS opinions about VIDEO GAMES!

If you want to advertise your internet boyfriend and his shitty “gaming channel”, you can crawl back to YouTube, Twitch, Xitter, Reddit or whatever shithole you came from.

I always find it weird that no one realizes that every one of these esalib YouTuber people do absolutely nothing with their lives and our total losers. They just talked to a camera and do nothing else. It's really sad that anyone listens to them at all. Do people aspire to be nothing?
