Prolly doesn't matter that much which version you play. I've only played PSP and don't feel like "upgrading" since it's already good. That being said the original Ys 3 is quite charming, especially PC Engine CD version with its funny voice acting and kickass soundtrack.

Defending Origin not having NG+ is really stupid when we're in a thread about Oath of Felghana which literally does have a really good NG+ that makes replaying it more fun and less tedious. There's zero defence of it not being there in Origin cause there's zero reason for them to have not included it.

You do need to do multiple playthroughs of the game but with the stuff you get to keep it's so quick that you can genuinely beat the entire game in under an hour. I think with a guide doing the 6 playthroughs of the game you need to do(you need one for every difficulty) can be done in under 25 hours. It's incredibly speedy.

It's genuinely insane to me that Ys 1 and 2 ended up being the games I had the most fun with in this series. When I started the series, I expected them to be clunky and to never wanna return to them, but the bump combat is actually very satisfying, and the sense of speed and banging fucking soundtrack help too. And they're also just short enough to be easily digestible. Origin is cool too.

Just a different brand of gameplay. It's like being able to go back to a 2D Zelda game after playing one of the modern ones. The games before aren't "worse" they're just something else. Now, if you mean trying to go back to, like, Celceta or Seven, then I get it because the party combat has come a long way since those, and it'd be advisable to play them before moving to later games just purely due to the feel of it.
