Niggas on reddit love to shill out silent hill 4 like its a masterpiece because it makes their "media literate" brain feel special because muh walter symbolism and wholesome LORE. Can we just admit that the game has good ideas, but it also fucking sucks. The atmosphere is really good and the room is a cool concept but if I have to play every single level twice and the controls suck dick is it really that good?

Silent Hill 3 > Silent Hill > Silent Hill 4 > Silent Hill 2

Also the escort missions made me want to blow a hole in my head. Especially during building world 2, I didnt use the swords on the special ghosts because I thought it wouldnt really matter. Eillen really has to be 5 feet away from me to progress to the next area if I didnt want her to get damaged. which I didnt get the good ending by the way, used every candle I found and still got 21 sacraments ending haha. Maybe its just a skill issue

Of the 4, The Room is the weakest, characters are good, some monsters are ok, gameplay is complete trash, sound design is absolute garbage.
The one with the trucker, cant remember the name, is way better than this.

I still can't wrap my head around chronology of the OG games

It's mind blowing how badly they dropped the ball with the sound design for some of the monsters in 4, especially the fucking patients. Their design is creepy but any element of horror they have is thrown out the window due to the fact that they let out a comical burp every time you hit them. Not to mention the fact that their hit sound bugs out if you knock them down while they're on stairs causing them to burp repeatedly until they hit the bottom of the stairs.

out of all the original SH games this is the only one that genuinely deserves a serious remake overhauling all of the shitty parts which is like half of the game minimum

I'm gonna be honest I played through Silent Hill 2 and then wanted to play Silent Hill 3 but they didn't have it at the store so I bought Silent Hill 4 instead and thought it was insanely good so I don't think that's just to feel special.
But I was glad that people enjoyed it on 4chan.
The controls do suck dick but the atmosphere and concept just win people over that bad gameplay I imagine. Also the villain is super cool and the case about the numbers written on the papers is very interesting.

Slowly learning and uncovering all of the clues that you get in the first half before you realize that the kid and guy in the coat are both Walter and seeing the only safe place in the game taken away from you was very special and cool. Sadly for many people the second half just left a sour taste in the mouth. As much as I didnt enjoy this game I would love to see a remake of it, idk how well bloober would do with it because a some of what made og silent hill 2 good was lost in translation.

A remake would definitely be interesting in a perfect world but you just know modern devs would remove everything that would trigger anyone like they did in SH2.
