According to Cid, Shinra didn't really ramp up Mako reactors until 1 or 2 decades back when they realized how profitable it was (thus ending the space program). So one single human company basically killed the Planet in the span of 20 years while the Planet did nothing about it, kinda pathetic really

no but you see sephiroth can literally summon a huge meteor and is an alien god. he can also destroy the planet, the galaxy, the multiverse and takes no damage unless cloud tries to hit him.

also he can't die and is invincible

Why do people keep saying that Sephiroth controls the WEAPONs when the game explicitly states they were created for the defense of the planet?

WEAPON was released because Sephiroth used the Black Materia. WEAPON couldn't get Sephiroth because he burrowed to the center of the Planet to stop Holy and put up a barrier behind him. WEAPON attacked human cities because humans are on the Planet's shit list, right along with Sephiroth and Jenova. Because it was Shinra and the Reactors that started all of this.

It couldn't find where he was. Weapons were drawn to civilization and Mako production, and while it's true Sephiroth's "signature" for sucking up the lifestream was pretty strong, it was also partially masked by the northern crater being a natural source and the dozens of reactors throughout the world showing just as much of a pull. There's just too much noise for the weapons to get a fix on where he was and do something about it.

It's possible if Shinra just shut off every reactor and drag humans back to the stone age maybe the weapons would've been a bit more focused, but there's no telling if even that would work in such a short timespan.
