A confounding law system: It's easy to circumvent by walking until you roll a favorable set of laws, and you can get access to cards that add or remove whatever laws you want, but it starts to be more trouble than it's worth and you start to wonder why it's here in the first place.
Party of randos that are actually worth training. In the original FFT your party was always filled by your named main story characters so you can roll into battle with a whole 2 other specialists that you will play the entire game with. In FFTA you're usually free to take 5 clan members into any battle with you and with the amount of jobs available it's easy to amass a small army of high value specialists. A shame there isn't permadeath this time though, it would've made your randos feel a little more special.

FFTA players are divided into two groups
>autists that love to cheese and break an already easy game by min-maxing unit stats, builds and broken jobs combinations such as dual welding paladin to the point where one of your units can decimate a clan, story-wise these players agree with Marche
>sub-80 iq browns that have trouble with laws, story-wise these players agree with Mewt/Doned (they often confuse one with the other or think they're the same) cause the game filtered them and they stopped playing, they often go "nigga I played it like 20 years ago of course I don't remember"

A lot better and deeper than I remember from launch but the equipment level up is garbage, and the game pushes quantity over quality.

Not good. DS makes damage hurt less based on where you are attacked. It made positions matter and is in some ways better. Both are quantity over quality encounters, lackluster storey, and annoying job ability level up based on equipment.
Like Banjo tooie I can see why people who played it as a kid loved it, you could sink 300 hours in it it if you had no repetitive bordom reflex. I'd question any adult who played it as an adult saying its better though.

Belive matsuno joked on twitter that if it sold a million he write the sequel or something. Also said he be interested in a prequel about barbaneth Cid and the 50 years war. Realistically though most the SE interviews they done about the game leading up talked about wanting to do more tactics games. Plus they went through the trouble of making the engine that runs it so business interest kinda wants to see it reused. IDK if we ever get a true sequel but another tactics game either advance remaster or some side story game seems certainly in the cards. At the very least its probably a good guess that SE wants to get the ball rolling on the Ivalice setting again.

Marche always ends up as my best melee character. I take him through thief and ninja to get the double swords skill, and then go soldier to fighter to use blades so I can dual wield the Ayuvir Red and Blue and take up the mantle of the Hero Gaol. TO reborn is actual low effort garbage, if you want a real balanced game with lots of additions play the one vision mod for PSP
For your question about ffta, it's kinda worse than the original FFT. The game is aimed at children and everything is pretty streamlined, jobs are easy to unlock and etc. The story is not very good either. It's what you had if you owned a Gameboy advance though. Not the worst game ever but it doesn't compete with fft or tactics ogre one vision.

The One Vision mod is a total overhaul of the game. Im in mid chapter 3 and there certainly haven't been any 1 shotting bosses and I dont think Ive ever used a card. The whole thing is meticulously balanced. Autistically so. It's great. Everything feels so good to use. Buffs and debuffs are definitely still heavily in play, though there's tons of new ways to apply and use them, and they've all been reworked. My Warlock and Ninja debuffers are actually currently my favorite units. The ninja in particular is just ridiculous. She walks around the battlefield and throws stops, binds, and stuns around like candy, silencing casters with blowdarts before chucking free sleep grenades. Ive actually started using her damage ninjutsus too. Shes one of the units I made by using a high Intelligence and Mind unit to bodysnatch a new body with high physical stats to make a super powerful hybrid. I did that with my Warlock and Terror Knight too.

In this one particular map in the woods dungeon there are these two unique necromancers who drop magic daggers with the bodysnatch ability, you just use them like items and you swap bodies with whoever you target, but keep your original body's Intelligence and Mind stats. I recruited faeries and ghosts who both have very high base mental stats to use as the base, then found new bodies for them that had high strength/dexterity stats. This is one of the many, MANY features added by the One Vision mod. I think in the original only the Ogre Blade had the bidysnatch ability, which you only got in the very endgame. It sounds OP but really it just let's you get generic units with stats on par with the unique characters. Plus in One Vision stats work totally differently, with classes leveling up instead of individual units. The main difference between different units is just their base stats (which class levels add to, depending) and their their mastered skills.

Ive been having a blast. Actual wake up, play vidya all day, go to sleep, repeat kind of days I haven't experienced in years. This particular battle >>723452198 really busted my balls. The goal is just to kill that one character, but she's hiding behind two tanky as fuck golems with upgraded rampart auras that keep you from walking past them. I tried like three times and they just pinned me down while I was slowly overwhelmed. Finally I put a ton of mobility skills on my units and busted out the fairy dust for levitation and tried pushing up the watery side of the map. The golems finally broke their positioning and I managed to catch her out of position to kill her.

The octopus is mine, yes you can capture and use monsters. The octopus in particular is an absolute menace, I love what they did with them in One Vision. He has a water bubble that hits like a truck and a water beam that hits in a line that can wipe out half the HP of several units if you can position it right. Both of those abilities he can only use while in the water, but I even use him on land maps too just because he's a reliable wall of HP that hits hard up to 2 spaces out.

>>723454883
Yeah, just humans. And I mean high physical stats by human standards. Lizards and orcs definitely have higher strength stats, but they dont have access to a ton of jobs that make use of high int/mind. The orcs do have the patriarch class that can cast, but I think orcs look a bit goofy. I plan on using a lamia for my patriarch.

Here's an example of how stats work in One Vision. On the left are the units base stats, this unit has very good Dex, Agility, and Avoid. On the right are her stats after being modified by whatever class she is, the level of that class, and her equipment.

One thing I highly suggest to anyone who does check out One Vison is to use this cheat code. All it does is funnel a greater share of the XP you receive when you finish a map to lower level classes. It will save you many hours of pointless grinding to level new classes and prevent your higher level ones from getting overleveled as you do. I cant imagine playing without it and they even advertise using it on the mod's website.

A good job-based system.
A decent grid-based tactical RPG.
An annoying set of laws you need to work around.
A story that's sort of neat but has some strange implications.

Montblanc is permanently in your party unless you get him killed in the no-law area. Still, you can make him a Time Mage/Animist so don't think he's worthless.

Make Marche a thief early and learn and master the ability "Steal" early, so you can get some OP secret items throughout the course of the game -- you will probably need a guide on which specific enemies to rob in which specific missions because it is not obvious.
Oh, and a guide on map placement as well so you don't miss some secret items also, due to the Treasure Hunt mechanic

The laws in the sequel were much worse. They don't even affect the enemies there.

>In FFTA prohibited Fire only stops you from casting the Fire spell.
>In FFTA2 instead you also get banned from using any other Fire elemental ability and weapon. Not even counterattacking with a Fire damage weapon is allowed.

Then FFTA2 has some laws like no knockbacks when every other attack is a critical hit that automatically knocks the enemy back and don't get me started on the "no missing" law.

leaving aside absurd ffta2 laws, what bothers me is this:
in ffta the laws change, if you're about to fight someone and you don't like the laws, you can wait until they're more favorable to you
in ffta2 the laws are static, if a fight against monsters has the "don't hurt monsters", you'll have to break it to win
