I remember seeing it in a interview that Masuda literally don't want VA in Pokemon due to the fans. He believe that Pokemon fans should be allow to imagine how their favorite character should sound like. You may think that's crazy until you look at the anime and game. See, in Japanese culture, VAs literally voice characters for their whole life, so you'll believe that they would voice this character in other media too, but no.

Mayumi Iizuka is Misty JP VA and she have been voicing that character since the start of the anime series. However, in Pokemon Masters, she is voice by Ayane Sakura. It's the same thing with other characters as well. Iris is voiced by Aoi Yuki in the anime, but not in PM. They made it clear that the character will always be voiced by someone else just to give this impression that they can sound like anyone.

If you want kids to bother fantasizing and making theories about your characters there needs to be something memorable that sticks in their heads, voices are one of the easiest and important means of doing so
As someone else said in this thread the fact that they have choreographed speaking animations just makes it 10x more stilted than earlier pokemon games

People are being obtuse on purpose, the problem is not the lack of voice acting by itself, the issue is the cutscenes and animations were directed in such way that not having voices or at least some kind of gibberiah coming out of their mouths just looks awful.
These kinds of fanatics are not known for being genuine so i'm not sure why i'm even bothering.
