a fair assessment. pc gaming was rather grim back in 2008, with former pc exclusive series shifting to being developed for consoles first then ported to pc, with noticeably dumbed down user interfaces and often a ton of bugs. also, the myriad of shitty copy protection solutions and windows vista made it a bit rough.
on the other hand, pc hardware was about the most affordable it's ever been back then.

I was lucky when I asked for a refund right after they bought out Psyonix and announced that Linux and Mac support would be dropped. It became a big issue and eventually Valve allowed anyone who had hours on non-Windows platforms to refund the game no matter the purchase date or hours played. Soon after that they announced the whole delisting from Steam thing, but no refunds that time.
