By which I mean, a series should always exhibit a clear lineage to its games, otherwise why even call it a series. Sure, sometimes there might come a paradigm shift point where the gameplay drastically changes, but then the series should continue with that new gameplay style, like Resident Evil for example. After Final Fantasy X, and all the perturbations at Square, there came Final Fantasy 12, which was nothing like the rest of the series. It was a great game in its own right so it was easier to let that slide and you'd think “a-ha, that's that paradigm shift of the series”. But then comes Final Fantasy 13 and it's absolutely nothing like either FF12 or the rest of the series. Then comes Final Fantasy 15 and it's nothing like FF13 or the rest of the series. Then comes Final Fantasy 16 and it's nothing like FF15 or the rest of the series.

If any of these game were called something else entirely and didn't have the FF naming conventions, you would never think or guess "ah yes, this is a Final Fantasy game". When FF17 comes out it's gonna be nothing like FF16 or the rest of the series. At this point they're just doing whatever and slapping the famous IP brand name onto it.

Unfortunately, Square Enix were a bunch of retards trying to make an action RPG out of Final Fantasy ever since 12, and always failing spectacularly. It’s really no wonder that Atlus has completely poached all of the old Final Fantasy fans, they’re the ones making 4 nigga in a row JRPGs nowadays. It really shouldn’t have come to this.

My theory is that Enix was so hurt by the success of FF -- because how dare another series compete against DQ -- that after the merge they set out to destroy the good name of Final Fantasy forever. And they've succeeded.

If you're talking about RE4, they put that style on hold, at least for new installments, at least with RE7.

In other words you are an autist with no real point to make.
Final Fantasy was a series based upon innovation. FFII was a completely different game from FFI. Each entry tried to be different, sharing only a spirit of crystals and chocobos and airships, not specific mechanics.
