Arena shooters have been dead for so long that even Total Biscuit was dancing on their grave

The funny thing is that people DO like arena shooters, but they were hit hardest by autists minmaxing the fun out of them for status and with nobody picking them up for fun it just croaked.

he was just pointing out how there are a lot of people who claim they want new arena shooters but when a new one is actually made none of them play it

>a lot claim
Do a lot actually claim that, or do you just see a few dozen people make that claim and then erroneously extrapolate that to a larger scale?

People love the cred that comes with claiming to play hardcore arena shooters more than they actually like playing them.

yeah for the past 15-20 years those guys have been everywhere on every forum and board related to fps games

The best thing, that people for some reason hate to admit, about arena shooters was how casual they were. Just fire up and frag, no ranking, unlocks or other arbitrary bullshit. You could always have a quick 30 minutes of high octane fun whenever you wanted. Obviously not possible anymore when people are running a meta that over a quarter of a century old

Your framing is wrong, Quake boomers are a loud, annoying minority that bitch and moan about how things should be to the point that you would think it's a large majority and not just a very, very vocal minority.
If you mean as a percentage of the actual quake boomer population, then yes, I think 25 guys bitching and moaning is a large proportion of the total (100~) still around.

Yeah, it's kind of poetic in a sad way. TB knew exactly what was coming – niche interest, no playerbase, revival attempts DoA. It’s like seeing a ghost get CPR every few years and wondering why it doesn’t stand up and walk away. Quake Champions tried, Diabotical tried, even Reflex had its moment, but the audience just doesn’t exist anymore outside of a few discord servers running custom servers with 12 dudes who all know each other by voice.
