Make it a partial puzzle game and partial timed escape room game. I could easily see some sort of typical puzzle game but taking breaks to have a "get away from Tom!" on occasion to make things more interesting. Both could use the same general game format, such as being a block pushing Sokoban-like or being a puzzle platformer.
