I wouldn't spend $1000, I would get the white one. I mostly play old games and emulate so a steam deck is fine for my needs.

I’d argue they’re the future of gaming. Consoles are dying. PC gaming is popular but normalfags don’t want to sit in front of a desk for hours or learn how to build a Pc. Handhelds are the perfect middle ground especially with how powerful they’re becoming.

Get a Lenovo legion go s instead, or depending on what you’re using this device for get a steam deck OLED. Most of these aren’t capable of running AAA titles effectively unless you’re willing to dumb even more money than this is worth into one of them.

IMO if you don't know what you want out of something like this just get a Steam Deck. It's the most neutral answer to this question.

Only go looking for one of these other devices if there's some specific intention behind it.

The more powerful black one is MAYBE a worthwhile purchase if you have the cash to burn. It's reasonably well priced and future proofed compared to other high end handhelds.

The white one is not. It gives worse performance and battery life than a Steam Deck and should be $400 or less, not $600. If you're thinking of getting the white one, get a Deck OLED instead.

The Z2 Extreme is a pitiful upgrade over the previous generation. Get a Deck or an Ally X if you want a handheld pc.

This is a stupid thread. If you want to buy it go for it. I understand this is a "give me the negatives of the device" thread, but this was a stupid way to lay it out.

Do you have a PC already? It can run the Xbox app and has Steam as well as GOG, itch.io, browser games and everything. You don't need this since you already have a PC.

These are also not handheld Series X|S consoles. The Xbox Series X is still more powerful than both of these devices and the Series S is more powerful than the regular ROG Xbox Ally. Also you're not going to be playing Xbox console games on these since they are handheld PCs. Unless the games are Xbox play anywhere compatible, you will not be able to access or stream the games. Maybe down the line they'll make it so you can stream the console games or something, but for now you can't. So if you were expecting these to be portable Xbox consoles, they aren't. They are Xbox handheld PCs.

You also aren't going to be going outside your house, so you're paying $600-$1000 to play COD, Forza, and Gears of War on whatever size screen that is either in the bed sometimes, on the toilet sometimes, or on the couch sometimes.

If after this, you still want it, do it.

Especially when you look at how tablets are taking over gaming in general. iPad kids will be looking for something like this in the future when handhelds are even more capable.

Let's not forget there are some seriously powerful APUs coming out like the Strix Halo that provide impressive raw power and battery life. This tech will continue to get better.

I gotta give Nintendo props for realizing hybrid consoles were the future. Once you experience playing AAA games handheld there's no going back.

The invention of the switch is definitely one of the things I’ll give Nintendo credit for they were certainly ahead of the curve when they released it. Now if only the would take the time to make it better.

It isn't. Unless you're talking about going from a Switch OLED to the Switch 2. Even then, the difference isn't noticeable and isn't worth not having the upgrades in everything else.
>and you have to exist in a walled garden.

Better chipsets, better LCD screens in general. More open OS. Better ergonomics. Better battery life. Better in system store. More games.

>better chipsets
So you'll pay more than what you and everyone else already says is "too much" for the Switch 2. Because this automatically means Switch 2 is more than $450.
>better LCD screens
You wanted to say OLED here, but good try
>More open OS
At this point you're grasping. Nintendo makes VIDEO GAME CONSOLES. They are not making PCs. This isn't Windows or Android. This isn't even Apple. It's NINTENDO who makes VIDEO GAME CONSOLES. "More open OS" is wishful thinking and you know how stupid that sounds. Is Nintendo suppose to make the Switch OS open source? Is Nintendo suppose to allow others to fork their shit and make their own "Nintendo Switch"? You're basically asking them to do what Microsoft is trying to do with the Xbox now and it's not going to happen. It's ridiculous to think otherwise and shows how ignorant you really are.

Literally everything else you listed means the Switch 2 is more expensive except for the "system store" and more games. I'll give you "system store" since I do think just bringing over the Switch 1 store UI isn't enough, but for "more games" what do you want Nintendo to do? They've put out a game every month since Switch 2 came out. You have Kirby next month and then Prime 4 the month after too. Also, 3rd parties are putting their games on Switch 2. If you don't have enough games to play, that's your own fault.

Stop grasping. You look ridiculous.

Prepare your anus

>$600
Buy a Deck OLED, switch 2, or even a gaming LAPTOP.
>but the handheld format
Then format windows onto the deck. It's already officially supported by windows. Plus, steamos works way better for gaming and has a desktop mode too.
>$1000
Same arguments apply, but you can buy a dock for the deck and play games on your TV or monitor without an issue . Buy a controller too if you must.

And that's not even taking into consideration streaming. You can just build a PC and stream from there.

Anonymous No.723666943 [Report]

Sorry when I said open OS I just meant even more user friendly with more customization options. Which is certainly possible to do without making it open source.

Also LCD screens vary in pixel density, refresh rate, VRR
Wasn’t expecting you to have a meltdown. But for the price point they can most certainly do better. 3rd party games are able to run on pc handhelds that outperform.

The white one is awful at it's price point. If you want to spend less, get a Steam Deck, it has near the same performance for $200-300 cheaper.
The Xbox Ally X is decent, but a thousand is expensive. You can find a 2024 Ally X without the grips for ~500-700 secondhand.
