Old School Runescape has hands-down the best world traversal and progression in all of MMOs
Am I wrong?

That would be regular RuneScape, back before OSRS was a thing
There was a brief moment where the world wasn't filled with a thousand teleports including free ones to get you everywhere you needed to go

Looking at this makes me realise how much Brighter Shores is just RS even though they claimed it was doing its own thing
Hopeport is pretty much just Falador + Remington
Hopeforest is practically Seers Village
Mantuban are the dwarven areas and mountains
Crenopolis is just Ardougne
Stonemaw Hill is just going to be Fremennik Province but Dwarves

well tbf to the guy he spent decades of his life crafting most of that world himself only to be pushed out of the world he crafted. I imagine after pouring so much of yourself into something like that its hard to just walk away. How is Brighter Shores now? I checked it out at launch for a few days but decided to give it so more time to bake

You aren't. At least I don't think so. Other MMOs feels like rush to endgame to grind raids and that's it. Maybe some RP on top of that and PvP modes.
OSRS also has reason to explore and set some goals for yourself. When I tried WoW, I was told to just grind max level so I could do the raids that actually matter because all old content was considered waste of time because the loot is bad and useless.
Like, what other MMOs add new areas and expansions which have content for low and mid level players as well?

OSRS is so different from other MMOs because it was created by just two brit teens in their parents kitchen. Other MMOs are huge studio projects where profit comes before design.
You really cannot get games like Runescape anymore.

>>723692278
I haven't even looked much into sailing as I don't wanna get "spoiled". Just the few context stuff and what OSRS YT channel uploaded.
I just wonder how transportation works with it and if you can skip stuff or not.

this, osrs is all about the journey as much as the destination. Been playing since I was 12 (on and off but playing more now than ever) and have never felt like there wasn't something to be working on or new content that wasn't for me
Anonymous No.723692790 [Report] >>723692952

Anonymous No.723692802 [Report]
>>723692520
its hard to say how transportation will be changed with this, I imagine some new charter ships will be added for sure for quick travel, but i dont think youll be able to skip the journey by your own boat. Teleports are a big unlockable incentive for a lot of content out there so I imagine making sure to keep the value there is important. I have nothing but the highest faith they will pull this off right, mainly because I think they feel they have to in order to open up new content avenues and messing up the first new skill will immediately kill that path

What? Games get made like that all the time.
Anonymous No.723692871 [Report]
>>723692520
I haven't completely kept up with it either but it's my understanding that you can only set sail and dock your ship at certain locations (like Charter Ship ports), and docking at some ports or sailing through whole areas that are "deeper/rougher" is gated by your Sailing level (which is why different seas are color-coded on that map)
I assume that there will additional checks to prevent you from going to places like Morytania, Tirannwyn or Varlamore before you've done the quests to access them, like how Charter Ships work now. I think they specifically used the example of not being able to sail to Crandor without doing Dragon Slayer first.

not only that but runescape had over 20 years to grow quietly in the background, not to mention OSRS being able to incubate and find its own identity while RS3 took all the modern day gaming bullshit from the execs. Nothing like it exists or could ever exist again in this day and age

not him but theres nothing to sell on, play osrs then in a few months when the new jagex ceo comes to the obvious conclusion that the only way to save RS3 at this point is to sunset the current running servers and let those degens play in their corrupted lands while restarting fresh start runescape 3 worlds without the mtx shit.

I had fun with the RS3 League and even played on my basically fresh main account for like two weeks after but I think it's pretty damning that in that entire time I did not meaningfully interact with two entire skills (Summoning and Dungeoneering) at all outside of Dailys and lamping them
There's a lot of cool fun stuff in RS3 and some stuff it does objectively better than OSRS but it's hard to sift through 20 years of bullshit

Honestly treasure hunter without actually paying for it felt like a blessing in some places. I can't stand actually grinding certain skills so just dropping a fat 50k exp drop/bxp drop on them on a daily basis just felt good.

I think the bigger problem with RS3 is that there simply isn't much of a mid-game community. You can't just stroll up to draynor/barb village and start fishing/wc and end up having a fun discussion with others because there are no others, they're too busy enrage 400000000'ing a boss or grinding for 200m exp in priffidinas or or whatever else.

/v/scape has a pretty okay custom client but /v/scape is also run by troons and their worshippers so I can't recommend it. I do agree that the old clients lack way too many QoL features like middle mouse button camera manipulation and xp drops. I think someone was working on getting runelite working with the latest 04scape server but I have no idea if that actually happened or not.

I hope they don't fuck it up by being too conservative with rewards. But judging by the recent rewards blog I fear they might be, everything in that blog looked like dead content day 1.
well, regardless of the rewards exploring the world and looking at all the new places and seeing the old world from a new perspective will be fun.

What's /v/scape? Is it similar to that recent 04 scape p server that came out recently?
My issue with modern osrs is it's hardly a MMO anymore. Take away all player to player interaction until 400 hours into the endgame with pvm raiding (which makes no sense with osrs and it's just jagex trying to copy WoW) and it's just a hollow subscription based 1st person game
Anonymous No.723695648 [Report]

Back when I was playing it, it was more like an '06 server with some light custom content, but no Hunter and no Construction, and no GE, and no Godwars. I believe they've added all that now but I can't say for certain because I don't play it anymore and haven't for about 5 years.

You wanna play a game with no GE? Check out RSC.vet (that's the URL). It's classic runescape (at least the Preservation server is). They have a fantastic custom client with RSC+ which takes some setting up to get working but you don't need a degree in rocket science or anything.

It's better than what they did in RS3 where they were petrified of making any new terrain for 15 years and just filled the mainland with portals and massive unfitting buildings every 3 steps. Osrs isn't completely guilt-free from doing that either, but the world generally feels expanded rather than condensed. Zeah played a big part in that.

What did OSRS add to the mainland surface? Can't remeber anything besides a few small dungeon entrances. Big areas they've added like Sophanem were completely empty/unreachable before.

clicking the minimap and waiting for the character to reach the destination or teleporting all over the place isn't good traversal. Spam clicking shit hundreds of millions of times to watch number go up isn't good progression. The only thing this game gets right are the quests and economy even though they kind of ruined it with the GE.

I prefer the way WoW was doing it where you need to interact with other players of a particular class and have them make a portal for you or summon you to where they're at, it was more social. There is nothng social at all about Runescape, everyone has everything they need to get anywhere they want by themselves. It has even gotten so bat that players can make ironmans and ultimate ironmans with the goal of never interacting with anyone else ever. Is it really an MMO if other players are just for show? I don't think so.
