Being a generation behind + getting into Roguelikes and Space Station 13 about thirteen years ago made me almost immune to this issue.
In fact a lot of what I play is graphically on quite a low end. This, Siralim Ultimate, Tales of Maj'eyal, Approaching Infinity, Cogmind and Warsim to name a few.
