It seems to me, from an outsider, VR has always been a gimmick that's never been fully utilized, and only a handful of games on different eras of VR tech are worth a damn, most notably HL Alyx. The rest is either Unity asset flips or fucking VRChat, which is unironically a porn game.

I've been told I'm going to go blind since I was a kid from being on a screen too long, the trick is not to focus on one spot on the screen for too long, because keeping focus on one thing is what causes eye strain. I use two screens, and multiple windows on each screen, so that I'm never giving one spot too much focus, and each is a different enough distance from my eyes that I need to slightly adjust when looking at a different window.

I think the main way that VR adds anything to videogames is by making them as immersive as possible.
I got access to an indoor sports court and have been playing RE4 there at night sometimes.

Being able to actually move your character's position directly with your body to such a degree, made the experience so much more fun. I'm at the point where I'm thinking having a headset without a treadmill or something equivalent is almost not even worth it

Doubt. Current alpha release of real time 3d conversions is sub 24 fps. Not suitable for most gaming. You can try for free right now with owl3d. Its free trial period for the real time conversion part. Imo its best for testing potential images and videos to convert to get an idea if its worth running before actually doing it. I agree that games that take advantage of vr full body movement are fun, I just dont think every game needs it. seeing things in 3d space is enough for a lot of games. I dont think elden ring would be improved if I could physically dodge roll and manually aim the direction of my weapon swings, but I do think it would be improved if I could see it in 3d. And the dumbest part is if they did, it would 100% be to promote horizon worlds which mostly sucks. Only exception id say is they bumped up the resolution of the 180 videos but theyre not 3d like with the blackpink one. They also utilized the whole frame for once so the extra pixels aren't wasted pixels.

Same issue with that new blumehouse rental app. Its actually really good. Just tried it for the free previews but was legitimately impressed. Again the downside is the actual video is not in 2d and everything i watch these days I convert it to 3d first. So its a bit of a downgrade. But the price is also right for the rental. Only 5$ but can only solo watch it. For the right movie or show I'd 100% use this. But again it has to be in 3d. Not to concerned with the quality of 3d but any 3d beats flat even with just how the colors pop

I've never played the actual singleplayer. I play a mod called Pat Wilson's Campaign Generator. You create one or many pilots, assign them to specific units, then go out on missions. The planes you have will depend on the period of the war. Patrols and specific missions are flown by both sides so battles happen dynamically. AI for flying circus isn't great but I've had a lot of fun with it. I heard their previous WW1 game has much better AI but it doesn't have VR. Mod has a lot of settings to tweak things to how you want it. If you get tired of taking off and landing you can set it to start in mid-air. If you want more or less ground troops or planes you can tweak that. I've had a lot of fun with it but I would like to try out the WW2 stuff.

It's impossible to find good VR games, once you play the few that are decent the rest are very bad. Even if you have the stuff to play VR well, you go through the trouble to set up your headset and get going and realize it's all the same.

why devs keep insisting upon trying to implement motion controls in VR versions is beyond me. All they have to do is keep traditional control for seated play but make sure it has a 3d front end and maybe adjust some UI elements so they are readable with it. With motion controls everything from gameplay to game speed itself goes out of the window as it makes the player so much more clumsier

I'd probably say right in the middle. I think the 3d on virtual boy is better and more comfortable than the original not-new 3ds and it's right up in your face. It's got stereo sound right by your ears by default and the displays are inside of a black void focused at your eyes with an ipd knob and focus slider. Similar to modern vr in those ways. A lot of games, you wouldn't be able to have the same experience on a 3ds. I think what really makes it not like modern vr are: the controller, which is very different in execution. It's not supposed to be looked at during play and has the dual stick dpad thing going on. It's otherwise way more conventional to game on than modern vr controllers. Also there's no gyroscope to track head movement, so that makes it fundamentally different from normal vr. Again, I'd put it somewhere between 3ds and vr.

Things like Vorpx have existed since 2016 and now UEVR bought it to a new level. these days there are very few big titles left that cant be at least run on the headset. Developers and publishers have not picked up on this fact and are thus skimming over easily implementable VR versions, thinking everything needs a major overhaul version with full motion controls
