For open world checklistathons, this ranks just a bit higher than Tsushima but just a bit lower than TOTK. So in other words, yes it's very good. But you aren't allowed to say this on /v/ because it's trendy to have a victim complex and pretend that enjoying good vidya is less important than culture war retardation.

I liked it, who knows though. I doubt it sold all that well, games like this don't seem to sell millions upon millions of copies anymore.

The target audience is mostly older people like myself, younger kids aren't playing these type of games they're all playing roblox and fortnite or whatever fotm battle royal is popular.

Truth is that Yotei has more stories* than story. Wandering the world will get you caught up in little mini adventures like helping a yokai be laid to rest after dueling it in a graveyard and pretending to be the daughter he accidentally killee otherwise his spirit will the haunt the world forever. Tsushima was a grand narrative but Yotei is more intimate and episodic. I like both approaches. Gameplay wise Yotei starts off a little jank because there's a lot of new info to take in, but I'm at 20 hours now and confidently call it a direct upgrade. Pic related, the yokai walking away to accept his death after realizing his psuedo daughter is strong enough to live without him now. The game has a lot of smaller, kino moments like this. Another one is hunting down a bounty who has to kill people in order to keep playing his music. After beating him in a duel he asks you to play one last song with him and Atsu him and him play their instruments as the sun slowly rises, following which he bleeds out and dies on the rock. Game is a solid 9/10, it'll get more love on /v/ once the PC port happens.

I liked it so much at first but the story and even some of the side quests that felt safe initially from the cringe writing are falling apart. It still plays like a good game and it's gorgeous to look at, but there's certain points that are becoming more frequent past like 15-20 hours in where you can just tell something was written by a retarded cali woman and it ruins the atmosphere and immersion completely
