gerson is weird in general because the latter parts of the chapter don't make nearly as much sense without having done the fight, but it's optional nature means that a decent amount of people didn't do it despite the blaring neon sign telling you to get the axe
what's also strange that it seems like the gerson fight was much harder earlier in development and toby made it easier, presumably he toyed with making it mandatory for story purposes but ultimately decided against it, for whatever reason
worst of both worlds, honestly
either make the fight easier and mandatory so the fake gerson fight and gerson showing up and the end make sense for everyone, or remove both of those and keep the old superboss gerson for people who want a challenge like jevil/ the knight
