I've put enough time in to get past the abandoned house tutorial and it's just kinda ass. It clearly needs more time and polish, but I don't think these devs could actually get something like this done. There's some cool shit, the telekensis and the powers are fun, but the rest of the game is so "meh" I'd rather have not picked it up at all. It feels so fucking incomplete.

There's nothing to do but follow the main path, and there's nothing on that main path except for dialogue and forced combat encounters. It scored a 6 out of 10 average. So why was the Hardsuit Labs version scrapped when The Chinese Room made a measly 6 out of 10 game? I expected it to be a 7 or 7.5 ballpark to have been in the position to have called it a proper salvage effort. So apparently the combat was improved but the rest of the game quality suffered. Who knows maybe the prior version had a chance at that 7 more than TCR did. Not you or I will ever know, but the claims from TCRs 'fans' that they made the most of what they had to work with was clearly bullshit. I personally think Paradox just panicked at last minute because they weren't confident about the project direction and where it was going but got some bad advice to work with TCR from outside observers, which led to a bad decision to stop mid development. I'm not saying HSL would have been 'good' but I'm trying to put some perspective about how TCR was clearly a bad idea other than sorting out the difficulties they had prior.

I played this for about 12 hours. The devs take on VTM is so strange. For starter, the combat kinda forces you into a dishonored-esque stealthy predator type of gameplay which is fitting for a generic vampire but not necessarily a VTM vampire. I picked Ventrue which is my favorite clan out of the ones available. I can't use the disciplines repeatedly because the devs want me to slug it out with the "Ghouls". My character feels weak in melee because I have no abilities to supplement my movement or attacks directly unlike most clans. So I'm forced to sneak around at least for a bit to thin out their numbers and also recover my blood supply from a previous engagement if necessary. On top of that, I don't think I have any of the usual Ventrue social advantages. There are no dialogue skill checks. There's a section where I was forced to get on my fucking knees and sneak into a police station instead of JUST POLITELY ASKING THEM. I might've gotten an easier in with Lou and her crowd on account of my blue blood but that's about it. It's just so odd. Why include the Ventrue as an option in the first place? There's also their take on the anarchs. Kinda based if you asked me. In Bloodlines 2 Anarchs are just one granny, a retarded nigger, and an endless horde of dimwits just making ghouls and siring thinbloods all day. That's the only explanation for why the city is teeming with a mix of "urban youths", danger hair weirdos and other assorted goons who are all armed and seething about cammies. Should I be worried about Gehenna because this is literally what they said Gehenna would be like. They have some notes on the factions so it's not like they're entirely clueless. why not just have the brujah rouse some rabble to riot? You can have feral niggers and leftists running through the streets + some Brujah or thinbloods riling them up without the bizarre contrivance of them all being ghouls.

That's because the blood mechanic is completely fucked as well. There's no blood bar so feeding just recharges 4 skills. There's no drain bar when you're feeding either. Combat's a fucking mess but its not really the focus of the game, running around the city climbing walls and floating around is genuinely fun but there's reallt very little reason to do it because the collectibles feel like an afterthought and dont really do much of anything for you. story seems okay so far from what Ive played, characters are interesting, considerably less wokeshit than you'd expect from a modern studio.
If it were called anything but bloodlines 2 it would be getting middling to slightly decent reviews, but at the same time nobody would be talking about it. Bethesda's engine would be fantastic for a VTM game, but BGS themselves are too family friendly to make a game like that. All the leads are gigaboomers who've been working there for 30 years and want to make games their grandkids can play, meanwhile VTM is like a cheesy slasher flick in tone.
