>Is Frostpunk 2 actually any good?
Not him but unfortunately, having played a decent chunk of it myself, I can testify that it isn't great.
A lots of things are wrong with it, even if you are onboard with the complete shift of both tone and genre - down to things like genuinely terrible U.I.
It lacks the atmosphere and immersion of the first game, but it does not provide equivalent value in depth of gameplay. It's still actually a very simplistic game, just like FP1 was but now also incredibly sterile and somehow, just very clunky to even control. Basic tasks like setting up supply routes can be an absolute chore.
The senate thing is fine in theory, but with how distant from the game you feel, it's just a matter of checks and balances. It's really hard to give a shit about any of the factions when the world feels like a spreadsheet and not a real place, so in the end, you'll quickly end up reducing it to "what gets me the next tech tree item the quickest", and once you figure out the mechanic (which is at first very confusing, but again, due to lack of communication, not due to mechanical complexity), you'll stop mechanically work towards the next task.
There is nothing (besides the occasionally awful controls) objectively BAD about it, but also not anything good.
Except for the soundtrack. the soundtrack is as good as it was in the first game, but... I'd recommend just listening to it on youtube.
