Nobody wants one either despite claiming otherwise.
If a new game is too close to Quake 3 then there's no point leaving Q3 to go over to the new game.
If a new game is different from Q3 then it's shit and unplayable.
And it's not a matter of porting over the community content either since there's a weirdly wide variety of not-Q3 games that are still at least partially compatible with Q3 mods, models and maps.

singleplayer? 100%, new boomer shooters beyond mods weren't a thing until dusk, there were some experimental stuff like shadow warrior, rott 2013, tower of guns etc. but those were all still very different
multiplayer? cod was always ass, but until bf6 came out, almost everything starting from 2016 had some form of battle royale, moba mechanics or 5v5/6v6 ruining the whole thing

why do people play hero shooters but ignore arena shooters? they're fundamentally the same except tbe weapons are distributed across classes

Lack of understanding why certain game mechanics work in one game and don't in another. Arena shooters are fundamentally about AIMING and DODGING. Games like BF are about TEAM PLAY and OBJECTIVES. You can't make it play like arena shooter because it would quickly derail into a deathmatch. Focus should remain on playing objectives so game mechanics facilitate a more slow and tactical play where playing around cover is more meta than zooming around entire map.
